will this tachometer work with 3 cyl engine

It doesn’t work for a 4 cylinder engine after a few months. Total trash , save your money.

How is this item connected to the engine to measure the rpm?

On my car one of the wires is connected to the negative side of the coil. Power is supplied by any 12v supply from car and negative to the chassis of car.
