Son is 8 yrs** A: My son uses it with ear putties. He has perforated ear drums so can’t get ears wet. Both together they are effective. Hope this helps. **Q: Are they able to still hear okay with it on? As we'd be looking at using it during a swimming lesson.** A: Absolutely no problem at all. We use it with my five year old who had grommets put in along with earplugs. No real restriction on hearing at all. The head band paired with the plugs have been superb **Q: What age would you say the band goes up to** A: I would say 4-5 at a max depending how big your child's head is. It fits my 4 year old who has a smallish head but was bought for my 3 year old and he has a slightly rounder head and I would say the fit is the same and there is not much room for it to go any bigger and still catch the velcro sufficiently to hold it securely in place. It is very good though and was a great addition to cover the vaseline covered cotton wool he needed to protect his grommets. **Q: Is this suitable for a 20 month old?** A: Bought this for my four year old and it was on the smaller end of the sizing.
