A good price for Portmeirion.
I found, at a reasonable price, a Set of 4, Round, 8.5 Inch Portmeirion Botanic Roses Soup Bowls. I've been buying Portmeirion since the 1970s and what I really like is that they don't fade and they take a lot of wear and tear. Until you drop them on a tile floor. 😒

Beautiful and versatile!
These rimmed soup bowls are a wonderful addition to my Portmeirion collection. They are gorgeous and well suited for serving salad and main course as well as soup.

Large, attractive, but the glaze has flaws
I have the dinner and salad plates in this pattern, and was excited to see they'd released bowls to match. Like the plates, these are very heavy, sturdy earthenware, and very thick. They're not dishes I'd mix with any kind of porcelain or china, but they're lovely everyday dishes that seem likely to last a while.*Note that if storage is an issue for you, a stack of four in this set is about the same height as a stack of eight porcelain dishes.* You'll also find they're much heavier than average, so any cabinet stackers you use may not be strong enough for a full stack of these. These bowls are large, but very shallow. In formal patterns, these might be considered cream soup bowls, and I'm not crazy about them for watery things like cereal or your basic can of soup. They're great for salads or chili, though, and also work pretty well for curries and chowders. That's all subjective, of course. My biggest issue with these bowls is that the glaze has lots of flaws on the undersides. All the bowls have spots where there are what seem like chunks of material caught under the glaze. These spots are rough on the fingers, and definitely noticeable when you pick them up. That said, they're fine on the display side, without blemishes on the parts you'll see while sitting at the table. I'm pretty disappointed at the poor quality of the glaze, though, especially at this price point. I realize now that the plates have the same issue, but I didn't notice before, probably because of the way you hold a bowl versus a plate. In any case, I have some reservations about recommending this set because of the glaze quality. But if you're okay with those flaws, they're a sturdy, attractive addition to the everyday table.

Just perfect
When you are left with two mismatched soup bowls, its time for a new set. I already have other Portmeirion dishes and these are perfect for a big bowl of soup or pasta. Fast delivery, well packaged and arrived in pristine condition. Nice price, too.

Very nice design, good depth!
The bowls arrived undamaged. The rose design is quite vibrant. So much so, that when I tried taking food pics, you could really see the design that took away from the food. That is not a bad thing when you want to show off these bowls and have a nice conversation about them. As for the bowls themselves, they hold a nice amount of food. They have a decent amount of weight to them as well. They did work in the microwave and the oven so it is versatile bowls. The best part is the overall high quality. Definitely worth the price. its a recommend for me.

Seconds?
On unpacking I noticed some had a dot on the bottom, usually a sign of factory seconds. There are also a fair number of kiln flaws (indentations), which may have been the reason for the 'seconds' marks. They are still very nice, arrived quickly and were well packed. I just wish the description online had been more accurate if they were seconds.
