Decent Magnetic Base and Can Be Made RECHARGEABLE
So, I really don't know where to start with these things. I looked at about 50 or more similar lanterns on here before I settled on these, with 2 factors being the deal breakers: the magnetic bottom, and the PRICE. The overall build of any of these type lights is pretty weak, but I knew going in that they weren't going to be sturdy, heavy-duty items. I had pretty much bought them for one particular use, and if they could serve that use, I would be more than happy.I was looking for something with a magnetic bottom because I needed something to stick to the shelf of our grill this fall/winter when it gets dark too early. Here in Texas we don't get much winter, so we are still outside grilling in Dec-Feb. The price was right, and I only needed 2, so this was a better option than a 4 pack of a different brand (even though the unit price of the others was less). These are pretty bright for 3 AA batteries, but there is no way to tell how long the generic alkaline batteries that were included would last in a storm or power outage. My son reminded me that he had some left-over rechargeable 14500 batteries ON THE WAY®Charger and 4Pcs 14500 2000mAh 3.7V Li-ion Lithium Rechargeable Battery AA Batteries For Led Flashlight Torch(Blue) that I didn't have a use for, maybe they would work inside these. So we got busy trying to decide how we would make them fit, which would make these lanterns practically rechargeable. I needed 2 dummy batteries to complete the circuit, and we used 2 different methods that you can use as well (should you want to use 14500 li-ion batteries). The attached photos show each of the different ways that we made the circuits complete. The first one was to take a DEAD AAA, cover the ends with electrical tape (to prevent any short-circuiting) and wrap the entire thing in aluminum foil. That was great, but we didn't have enough dead AAA batteries. So, we found an old piece of dowel rod (1/2 diameter, I believe) cut it down to almost the length of a AA battery, and wrap it in aluminum foil. Now I'm not a scientist, but the li-ion battery delivers 3.7v, and each alkaline delivers 1.5. But I had read enough to know that the 3.7 li-ion battery would power almost any LED light device. My photos confirm this, and I am now the proud owner of 2 new, RECHARGABLE magnetic lanterns.

Love it!!!
This thing is legit. While the manufacturer hedges about the amount of light output, the lantern is NOT one of those dissapointing whimps when you turn it on only to find a dull, blue glow of light. This thing shines in all directions. You will want to shield your eyes from it. Id estimate the output at around 350 to 500 lumens, about the same amount of light you would get from a 40-50W house bulb. The temperature, again not stated, I estimate to be between 4500 and 5000 K. Bright white but not quite pushing into the annoying blue zone. The thing is plastic so its not going to survive being neglected or being tossed around and dropped off trees or in lakes. Its cheap, lets face it. But.. it is very functional and small and light. I love the magnets in the base. Brilliant!! Its easy to change the batteries and they last over night at full output. So, to sum up, they are cheaply made of light plastic and not built for you to pass along to your grand kids but for this function, flexability and applicability... at only around 10 bucks a lantern, Jeeeeeze.. what do you want people? Buy a dozen of the things if you are a rough brute to your stuff and have extra just incase. Great value!

Very impressed
I bought a pair of these lanterns and was so impressed I bought a second pair. I'm using them for emergency lighting in case of a power cut but I have tested them out at night and the light they produce is impressive. They produced more than enough light to cook by, light up a bedroom, living room etc to feel comfortable and be able to easily see everything around you. All 4 lanterns have a smooth opening and closing. I cannot comment on their water resistance etc and I have no intention of using them camping. I'm also not making any comment on their sturdiness, resistance to breakage, dropping etc. I'm not interested in "what if's". The COB LED's have a reflector behind them and so the light cast is very good. I would say cast light a full 360 degrees. There are a couple of slightly dull spots in the 360 but they're negligible. I have found that the higher up you can hang these the better the light spread. Most likely because there's a small amount of light refelected upwards which reflects nicely of a white ceiling. For the money, these are definitely a bargain. I'm very pleased with the purchase and would highly recommend for someone looking for effective light in a power cut etc.

Mediocre lanterns
I bought these to have extra lights in my kitchen because my overhead light fixture isn't working. Pros: you get two lanterns for one price and the batteries are included; the batteries are easy to install; the lanterns turn on easily without a switch by pulling up on the handle. Con: At first, the light was pretty bright, but after a short while the light started to get really dim, just a little better than no light at all. Instead, I recommend the "Energizer Weatheready Folding Lantern," which I had purchased from Amazon previously. It takes either two or four D batteries (not included), but even with only two batteries it is much brighter than these Abosi lanterns.

Best camping latern out there
I made this last min purchase for our camping trip. First time going to a site with no electricity. Flashlights are great but you have to hold them and usually unidirectional. These are lanterns! And they are bright. we were able to sit around, talk and play cards. Let the family walk to the bathrooms in the middle of the night without being afraid. Boys loved holding them and you can adjust the amount of light by collapsing the cylinder. If you have a hook in the center of your tent, you can hang it and have a room light. This thing is just awesome. I also used this when I was working on the AC in the attic where there is no lamps. Perfect!
