They are made to fit 1 inch thick material. If the crib is thick enough or if you can increase it's thickness they should work fine.

Q: How deep is the whole to bottom of the u shaped opening? Need it to fit a 3/4 inch beam

U-shaped opening: depth is 31mm, width is 30mm. The 3/4 inch beam is a bit small.

Q: can brake be removed?

Yes. Put down the foot brake when it is fixed, and pull up the foot brake when you need to roll it.
