Best choice
One day I looked at our bookshelves and was suddenly struck by the idea that we needed a good, solid atlas in our family's library. I know google maps usually does the trick, but sometimes you just want to flip through and touch real paper and not be distracted by everything else in your browser window. This atlas was highly recommended by other reviewers. I took their comments into account and also took some time to look at atlases at our local library. The other ones I saw there had fewer maps and more bonus material. This atlas's map style was easier on my eyes, too. Plus, because this one is made in the UK, it didn't have a disproportionate amount of USA maps like the other ones I looked at. I have loved looking through it and do not regret my purchase one bit!(Bonus: there are great historical maps in the back, too!)

Returned: difficult to differentiate countries
So frustrating! Demarkation of country borders is not clear. For example, neighboring European countries are all the same shade of green; each country includes extremely dense, minuscule road details; and the country borders are indicated by a soft, purple line. Too much of a struggle. Returned this, and bought NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC FAMILY REFERENCE ATLAS OF THE WORLD. Now, that's a fun atlas!!
