Good authentic pot
This clay pot is a authentic looking clay pot with matching lid. My order had a chip on the lip of the pot but other than that everything was good about this pot. Please note this is unglazed pot so you need to season it first before use. We soaked it water overnight and then oiled it and then heated it on stove for 10 mins or in oven for an 30 mins on the low setting. The lid fits perfectly and is heavy to provide a good seal when cooking. Once it is seasoned it is a joy to cook authentic style dishes and you can use the same pot for serving which makes it a great presentation piece.

Must Season Pot First
I think I misunderstood what I was ordering when I received this clay pot. My hope was I could use it straight out of the package, but you must season the pot first. It takes 6 hours of soaking, then oiling and roasting. I consider this a lot of work. Of course, the advantage of this pot is the way you cook food with it. Preferably, it is best to cook things "low and slow" in this pot as it will make for very tender meats and stronger flavors. I'm giving it 3 stars as I was hoping it would be more convenient and less work, which was not described when purchasing the product.

Passed the lead tester
My wife and I like ceramics but don't want to be exposed to heavy metals found in some. I'm always cautious when I see products are claimed to be lead, cadmium or cobalt free, so I test them when I can. This product was easy to test with a standard lead based paint tester tube. Because it's already reddish, I tested both the bottom of the pot, and used the second method of testing some of the dust separately. (Directions for this technique come on most lead testers - you sample the dust on white paper, like a paper towel, and test it on the towel.)It passed. The pot we received was well made with the lid fitting perfectly. It is unseasoned, which is fine for us. This will make a great tortilla warmer!
