Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is the eponymous release from the solo project of the former Oasis legend, and the first after his acrimonious split from the aforementioned band. Working in both London and Los Angeles between 2010 and 2011, with frequent collaborator Dave Sardy serving as co-producer, Gallagher utilized the talents of now bandmates Jeremy Stacey (drums), Lenny Castro (percussion) and Mike Rowe (keyboards) for the album. Review: From This Album Forth I Have No Little Brother - It's been a while, hasn't it? It's been about two years since Oasis called it a day...or imploded, depending on how you felt about them and their music. With Liam Gallagher and his Beady Eye group releasing their album "Different Gear, Still Speeding" earlier this year, many music fans in the camp of older brother Noel have been waiting for what seems like an ice age for some kind of response. Finally they've got one in the shape of the album "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds," but has the wait been worth it? Based on what I've listened to...OH HELL YEAH!!! At the beginning of EVERYBODY'S ON THE RUN it sounds like a choir is singing. It seems appropriate somehow. It's like you're entering a church. A cool church of great rock music, and surely I don't have to tell you who the priest is meant to be. EVERYBODY'S ON THE RUN is like the opening hymn, and the use of the violins only adds to the song's holiness. THE DEATH OF YOU AND ME is something I feel Noel would've written and sung if he had been around in the old Wild West. It's got that kind of vibe to it, and I don't care what instruments were or weren't around back then. That's just what it makes me think of, and I like it. It certainly beats the 1960's anyway. (I WANNA LIVE IN A DREAM IN MY) RECORD MACHINE is a perfect fusion of rock and orchestra work that make one fantastic track. Meanwhile AKA BROKEN ARROW is another great song. Just listen to the acoustic part at the beginning. Sound familiar? Got something of a WONDERWALL (Oasis) vibe about it, doesn't it? And we all know how iconic that tune is. As far as "duds" go, there's not much here I can complain about. In fact there was only one track that I wasn't overly keen on, and that was DREAM ON. It's rather repetitive, especially in the final third where the lyrics "Shout it out for me" are sung over and over and over again. Erm...shout what out exactly? If I had to sum up this album in one word it would be this one...Epic! Strong word I know, but I challenge anyone to suggest differently after listening to this album. I felt that Liam's Beady Eye effort "Different Gear, Still Speeding" was about average because it had its head stuck in the 60's too much. Fortunately Noel is a smart man and has kept his sound more modern. Everything on this album (with the exception of DREAM ON) has been perfectly laid out: the lyrics, the length of the tracks, the instruments used...From the first chords in EVERYBODY'S ON THE RUN to the last ones in STOP THE CLOCKS, you'll feel as if you're listening to an album that's tidy, suited and ready for its interview with legendary status. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is a brilliant album that you simply must own. I still can't get my head around the "High Flying Birds" bit, but if the band keeps turning out great music like this I'm sure I'll get use to it. Review: Satisfying first album from Noel - I have lived with the album for a while and happy to report I love it! Granted I'm biased to an extent because I like Noel's work as chief songwriter in Oasis, and have grown increasingly impressed with his ever maturing soulful vocals. This has come to full fruition on the album which kicks off in a very bold way with Everybody's On The Run, a tune I first heard from a sound check in 2009 and seems to have been given the treatment it deserved with an orchestra and choir (what else?), and big drums, and guitar. It's also a cool way to start an album rather than leave it until the end. I like all of the first 6 tracks best through to Aka What A Life, which has been all over the radio. Definitely one to strut your funky stuff on the dance floor. Uncle Noel would be proud! .. And then the fabled Stop The Clocks ends the album in style. I say fabled because its been around since 2001 and could have been on any of thee last 3 or 4 Oasis albums since then, and finally gets its place on here. On a nerdy note, of special interest is the production from David Sardy who I understand added some ambience to the tunes and really helps elevate a lot them to a whole new level. I believe he also had the drums re-done after Noel originally took on the reigns of production early on in the process. Finally there are other tunes worth checking out which for one reason or another didn't get on the album, but are available on either iTunes, or available as b-sides. The songs Simple Game of Genius and Let The Lord Shine A Light On Me are both amazing, and at least one of these could have easily fit somewhere. Other songs not to feature on this are Alone on a Rope (v good mid-tempo soulful tune), The Good Rebel and I'd Pick You Every Time (folky).

OUTSTANDING ALBUM 10/10
OUTSTANDING ALBUM 10/10 Great Deluxe edition :) I first got the normal CD and I was amazed at how good this album was, AMAZING, Noel has done it again but this time he sings them as well as just writing them all, when he left OASIS I thought it was the end but when HIGH FLYING BIRDS hit the streets I thought to myself (YES HERE WE GO AGAIN) Every song is good quality and well written and performed, there is not one WEAK song on this album in my opinion all GREAT. Don't think too much of (BEADY EYE) Liam is not as good as Noel for writing songs and stuff, I don't hate Beady Eye I just don't like it more then HIGH FLYING BIRDS that's all, I mean B.E is okay but nothing amazing like this album is. This deluxe edition is a great collectible product, you get a neat picture book, full album and demos, concerts, its just a MUST HAVE for any OASIS Fan or Noel Fan, in fact you don't even have to like OASIS to like this album :) But yes I'm also a BIG OASIS Fan too, I have over £500 WORTH of OASIS albums, books, bootlegs, t shirts, mugs, picture frames you name it because I am (MAD FOR IT) anyway great album LOVE (HIGH FLYING BIRDS) CAN'T WAIT FOR NOELS NEW ALBUMS TO COME :) Great service, Fast Postage, Top Seller.... MANY THANKS (5*****)

Playing It Safe & Doing It Well
Well it has been a long time coming and finally Noels long awaitied solo album has landed... First off I am reviewing the Deluxe Edition so just a few notes on the contents. Surprisingly it is a nice little package it is a hard back book housed in a hard case sleeve. At either ends of the book are the album and DVD respectively. The book primarily consists of the lyrics and artwork from the album however it is good quality and well worth the asking price in my opinion. On too the album...to be very straight forward this is Noel playing it safe so do not expect a new sound or direction. However he has managed to blend the various sounds that he and Oasis explored throughout their 15 years. If you were familiar with the Don't Believe The Truth album from 2005 this album will instantly bring it to mind if that helps give some scope of the overall sound and feel of this album. It weighs in at 10 tracks which if anything is a good move from Noel while in my opinion he has a cracking voice he does struggle to have the vocal variation to carry a much longer album if you see him live in the coming months you will most likely see my point. Things kick off in glorious fashion with Everybody's On The Run which is one of those tracks you instantly love and by the second chorus you know the words this track will appeal no end to fans of Oasis. Dream On follows and this is what I consider Noel playing it safe its kind of become his default "jingle" which there is no problem with but you know exactly what to expect it has the usual simple but gloriously effective lyrics backed by the upbeat strumming of an acoustic guitar. If I Had A Gun next and this is Noel at his very best, yes you will instantly recall Wonderwall but this is a spectacular track. Which leads into The Death Of You & Me which was the first UK single and again Noel playing it very safe chances are you've all heard it on the radio in the past few months so there really isn't much to say but in my honest opinion it could be the weakest track on the album for me. The first half of the album closes with I Want To Live In A Dream (In My Record Machine) which for those in the know of Oasis history is a bit of myth and was wrote around 10 years ago which is similar to Stop The Clocks at the end it does sound 10 years old to be fair but there is no problem with that in my eyes it is a great song it could almost be Champagne Supernova's little brother it has that feel to it and I can confirm it is epic live but it should of been released 10 years ago you feel its just little late for it to reach its potential as the hit it should have been. AKA...What A Life opens the second half and is the current UK Single and this is as diverse as Noel gets on this album which is why it feels so fresh the upbeat almost dance tempo and dare I say it but this could be the best direction Noel could take for the next album. The next three tracks Soldier Boys & Jesus Freaks/AKA...Broken Arrow/Stranded On The Wrong Beach is pretty much where Noel firmly retreats into the default sound which again is by no means a criticism these three tracks are all of a similar vibe and feel which is that Don't Believe The Truth kind of sound I mentioned earlier though Broken Arrow is the pick of the bunch for me. The much famed Stop The Clocks closes the album it was never going to live up to the hype it is still a fine song and is more than worthy of its final release but its unlikely anyone who was aware of the hype surrounding it for nigh on 10 years while Oasis constantly tinkered with it and teased its release is going to be completely satisfied nevertheless its almost a farewell from Noel to the Oasis days and done in the best way possible. The DVD in this set frankly is exactly what you expect it contains the making of the album which probably will tell you nothing you didn't already know its worth watching if your into these kind of things but it's not life changing. The Death Of You & Me video and making of is also included and again is exactly what it says on the tin. I apologise for the lack of detail here but it really is exactly what you expect from one of these bundled DVD's its well worth the extra £4.00 for the Deluxe for the DVD and fancy packaging though. I do feel slightly negative in this review and it is not a negative review this is a glorious album from Noel anyone who liked Oasis as a group, Noels songs from Oasis or just appreciate him for the genius he is will be more than satisfied with this release and after seeing him live recently it sounds fantastic. I do hope he steps away from the safe ground for the next album as he is probably more versatile than he realises.

Vive La Noel!
I bought this album because I`d heard `AKA What a Life` a fair bit on the radio & really liked it - also the album was only a fiver! I have to admit that I was not a huge Oasis fan - between us, my husband & I have all their albums, but for me they stand for that moment in time in the nineties & rarely listen to them (although I have a special place for `Dont Look Back in Anger` & `Wonderwall`). This album though, I adore, I feel as if I suddenly `know` Noel - I hear his voice for the first time - its so easy breezy & beautiful. Every song I enjoy immensely, but for me the stand out track is `Everybody`s On The Run` - simply stunning. I think I`m just a little bit in love with this talented singer, songwriter & musician.........

just cool and fine
Liking most of the Oasis records very much, I can't help not being totally overwhelmed by Noel Gallagher his solodebut. I know the record has been well received. I do know that the record ended up in a lot of English 'best of the year' lists. The thing is: I do like the two singles "Aka... What a life" and "If I had a Gun" very much. But the other songs are just cool and fine, nothing more, nothing less. Afther I have listen to the record a few times during the last months I can help to notice that some of the songs sound a little bit the same and could have used a sharper edge. The feeling 'I have heard it before' came a little bit too soon. Somehow I miss his brother's vocals on the songs (whereas I miss Noel his guitarplaying and cords on the Beady Eye songs).

un gran cd
Gran debut en solitario de Noel Gallagher en el que mantiene el "sonido oasis", del que compuso la mayoría de las canciones

Classic Noel Gallagher with some minor progression
I have this album already for years on CD, but I have been basically rebuying my Oasis and Gallagher solo albums on vinyl since I have one for a few years. This album is pretty good, but not my favorite of Noel's solo work... that would be CHasing Yesterday, the follow-up to this album. Still a great record, good sound quality. Fave tracks on here are If I had a Gun, Stop the Clocks, and The Death of You and Me. There are bonus tracks on the deluxe version on CD I liked as well This album feels like a lot of music developed around the time of Oasis' last album but was never used because it didn't quite fit the mood for Oasis album at the time.
