is this silicone FDA approved material?

You will need to ask the manufacturer that question. It is bpa free and food safe.

Is this made of more rigid nylon or soft silicone?

It's made of silicone but it's firm, not flexible - think of it as if there is some solid material that makes up the spoon head and it's dipped and coated in silicone so it doesn't damage your nonstick pans - I use these spoons for everything and even drilled a hole in the top of the handle and filed it down so I could hang them up!

It looks black, but other matching products are midnight blue. WHat is its real color?

It is black in my opinion. I have blue as well but it is a bright blue. You can tell the difference. Hope thus helps. And I love my utensils!
