What a perfect gift for the horse lover in every family
What a perfect gift for the horse lover in every family! The author, Kerri Lukasavitz, has created a story that pulled me into the plot right away. It was an engaging story with several twists that kept me guessing as to what would happen.Cassie, the main character, wants a horse to call her own and to love. As she and her father search for the perfect horse for her, I felt the range of emotions that the protagonist experienced...every hope, every disappointment, every concern, everything. I didn't want to put down the book.I would highly recommend this book for middle grade students.

What a great read! It's a horse story but so much more, the author captures the challenges and joys of being a middle school girl. I couldn't put it down! It's is a suspenseful page turner that keeps the reader guessing to the end. I'd recommend this to any middle school aged girl but it is a special treat for those who love horses. It's clear that the author knows what she's talking about. I agree with the reviewer who hopes there will be a sequel!

... is not only the story of a young girl’s love of horses
Mystery Horse at Oak Lane Stables is not only the story of a young girl’s love of horses, but is much more. It is a story of family and friendship and navigating the perilous waters of adolescence. I read this book before buying it for my two granddaughters, to make sure the content was appropriate for them. It passed with flying colors. I highly recommend this book for boys and girls of all ages.

I loved it and so did the grandchildren
I purchased this book for myself and my 4 grandchildren. I loved it and so did the grandchildren. It has a great story line and I loved the style of writing. I would highly recommend for grade school and middle school children. I hope the author adds more books along these lines.

A horse story for all ages
The author of this series writes like someone who knows horses--and is a good writer. Kerri Lukasavitz takes you into a horse barn (and the life of the main character, Cassie, a girl growing up in the '70s) with ease. The reader sees the world through Cassie's eyes. It's filled with excitement, angst, and energy.Horse behaviors and tack are explained in detail; it's as though the reader is learning about horses along with Cassie. When she goes over a jump, so does the reader. When she confronts a problem, so does the reader. If you're a horse lover, have a daughter who's horse crazy, or know someone who enjoys horse books, this is the book! And, to make it better, there are two "Oak Lane Stable" books to enjoy.Happy reading. 😃

More than a horse story
Like all good books, this story of 12-year-old Cassie is more than the title suggests—there’s mystery, the struggles of an unrequited crush, parents who think they know best (they usually do!), adolescent friendship, and of course, horses.Cassie yearns for a horse of her own, and her parents are finally in a financial position to give her one. But the mysterious horse Cassie so desperately wants has a past which keeps the beautiful gelding out of reach.Ms. Lukasavitz relates details showing her own love of horses and competition, which only someone with a passion and years of experience could convey. It’s an enjoyable read with a satisfying ending. The mystery solved, Cassie is ultimately elated by her family’s choice for her. I highly recommend this YA book and the continuation of the Oak Lane Stable series.

An adorable start to an adorable series!
I got the privilege of being an ARC reader for this fun, adorable YA novel. Set in the 1970s, Mystery Horse delves into the life of Cassie, a 12-year-old girl who really wants a horse of her own. Her parents struggle to keep up with the expenses (i.e. she has shabbier clothes than her rival, Lisa and one of the horses she likes is too expensive), which I found relatable since a lot of kids can't have everything they want growing up.Just like with the sequel I read, this novel did a great job of explaining horse terms and what trainers have to go through to prepare for shows. I enjoyed the fascinating POV into that behind the scenes work. Even better, I didn't have to be a horse lover to understand or enjoy this novel. The characters are all fun, quirky, and have distinctive voices, so if you have a child (or are in the mood for a cute horse book), definitely pick up a copy! If you do, a percentage of the sales will go to the Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation and the Wisconsin/Washington County Humane Societies. Thank you to Three Towers Press for allowing me to read and leave my honest review!
