Easily and reliably removes paint runs and dust nibs from your car paintwork
There are two problems with this tool - the first is price (it's from Festool after all!) and the second is a complete lack of instructions. Even some of the 'how to' amateur demo videos on Youtube are simply wrong and at the time of writing only 'The Gunman' shows how it should be done.Yet the first time you find that your carefully prepped and sprayed panel has an unsightly run, or little nibs of dust, stray insects or the odd cotton thread sunk in the clearcoat you will find this tool such a godsend you will forget the price. Yes, there are ways of sanding runs and nibs out of the paintwork but this tool does the job so quickly and cleanly that you save hours of your time and can often simply move on to a quick wet sand with 3000 grit before compounding and polishing. The correct way to use the tool is to (1) ensure the lanyard is either wrapped round your wrist or hung round your neck. This avoids dropping the tool on the floor. As it is a chunk of solid titanium (very brittle) at best you might chip the sharp edge but at worst you may crack the tool and have to buy another. (2) lie the tool flat on the surface of your paint with lanyard side down and gently push the sharp* edge against the run or nib. Do not use it like a scraper!!!The problem area will be shaved flat after one or two passes. By this time the cost will have been forgotten and you will congratulate yourself both on a job well done, and on your foresight in buying the tool in the first place.*the 'sharp edge' is simply a very clean 90 degree angle in a piece of extremely hard metal : it will not cut or injure you.

A Useful thing
An excellent tool for removing dust nibs and paint runs You can compound the surface after de-nibbing rather than having to re-sand. Price sounds high but savings on sanding discs and time are a factor. It's made from TCT which is expensive. Anybody who buys TCT tipped router cutters will know what they cost so all in all worth it. TCT is very brittle so don't drop it because you risk chipping the edges.First one I bought was missing the hole in the centre of the tool which is where your finger rests when you are using it.It's important to let it rest flat on the green chord and guide with your finger. Light touch and let the tool do the workReturned to Amazon and the replacement arrived within 18 hours! Full marks to Amazon for that!

Seems expensive but it really isn't.
DIY spray painting our old campervan I've erred on the side of being generous with the paint on the basis that I can then correct my inevitable mistakes more easily. But for me that has meant a few sags and runs. Which I've tried to remove using the filler and razor blade tricks - slowly and uncertainly. But I've just tried this on a test panel and it's brilliant. If it had a microchip and an electric motor and did what it does as well as it does then for the price it would be an obvious and amazing bargain. But because it's 'just' a slab of tungsten carbide, though pretty, it maybe seems expensive. And it's not, because the stuff is expensive and the tool works perfectly.

Great bit of kit and so easy to use.
Great for just knocking off any dust that's got into the paint. Expensive but so easy to use.

It works well.
This is expensive for what you get, but I removed paint runs with it, and after polishing, couldn't see or feel where they had been. Sometimes these have another hole in the middle. Mine didn't, like the picture. I phoned the company, and they are legitimate. They must have changed their manufacturing process to reduce the cost of production. The extra hole may have resulted in a higher failure rate. The material it is made of is very brittle, so don't drop it!
