Mini Recon 1 3" AUS10A Razor-Sharp Blade 4" GFN Handle Tactical Folding Knife w/Tri-Ad Lock, Ambidextrous Pocket/Belt Clip

This is an exceptionally nice folding knife that's ideal for EDC. First, the quality through and through is excellent. The blade is tight and centers perfectly when closed. The stonewashed finish is uniform and attractive. The tip will pierce easily, and the cutting edge is scary sharp. Although the steel used in the blade's construction is not a "high-end" metal, it is still very good, holding an edge well while still being easy to sharpen. I love the light weight of this knife, and being thin, it's super easy to carry. You may forget that it's even in your pocket. I read one report where a guy said that it's bulky. Wow, nothing could be farther from the truth in my opinion. It's light and compact. The locking system may very well be the best in the business. The blade locks in place with an audible "click" that you can feel. It's rock solid and secure. The last thing one needs from a folding knife is for it to close prematurely. I am not at all worried about this aspect. The scales (handle) are stippled just enough to make it comfortable in the hand. You get a tremendous amount of quality for your money. In fact, I have had many folders costing a lot more than this that were nowhere near as nice. This knife is truly an amazing value, and Taiwan is a US-friendly nation. If you want a compact knife for EDC carry that will handle a variety of tasks well, this is a great way to go! Stay safe out there and God bless!

Cuts better than I expected from a short(ish) blade that is a touch on the thick side (blade thickness wise). They got the sharpening angle just right (for how I use a knife) ! I don't need to bash the blade through something with a heavy stick. I do very much appreciate a knife that cuts well though rope or firm material and doesn't get wedged part way through. This Recon cuts right through stuff like that with out much force. I was using it side by side with another brand new knife that had a good sharp edge but more obtuse sharpening bevels and it was night and day easier with the Recon. The handle shape is really up my alley : lots of forward area for my thumb, decent texture on the sides for a pinch grip and no hots spots / the pocket clip is NOT in the way. Opens easy with out having to hold my tung just right, like some of my other knives require. Small and out of the way when clipped in my pocket but when I open it and grip it it feels like coming home; my hand just fits it and locks in to go to work. Don't get me wrong it works well with multiple grips. Not too hard to unlock, like some Cold Steel Triads, but it does take strong hands (not a fidget toy). I'm a fan of spear point blades in thin blades but with this Recon I prefer the Clip Point ( I like it quite a lot). The pocket clip is crazy stiff, like most Cold Steel Knives but with lighter weight work pants it is working well without modding it (most CS clips I take off and grind thinner) e.g., the clip on my Cold Steel 3inch Holdout knife was so short and crazy stiff I finally had to put the long clip from a 6inch Holdout on it so it wouldn't take a death grip on my pocket . . . but that's another story. Bottom line : This Recon is a real Winner and I can recommend it without reservation. PS: I'm a long time fan of Cold Steel and have scads of them; some I have bought multiples of the same model and modded them to suit me. I don't see a need to mod a Recon; just take it out of the box and enjoy putting it to work.

My fist knife memories start about 1956 when grandpa O. gave me a miniature fake ivory handle keychain knife with the working edge ground flat and a chain that some years later would actually hold keys. By the middle of first grade, I already had a modest collection of three or four, being lovingly stored in a new cigar box still radiating the aroma of fresh cigars along with magnetic dogs, agates and several other long forgotten treasures. Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to have experienced the joys of owning hundreds upon hundreds if not thousands of sharpened metal pieces in almost every conceivable size and shape. Three plus decades ago I bought dozens of knives when 1st introduced by Lynn Thompson. I remember watching the ads of them being stabbed into 55-gallon drums and then being used to shave arm hair. Absolutely true, every bit of it. As a general acknowledgement of what I consider a continued tradition of designing and manufacturing fine edged weapons and implements It’s my pleasure to wholeheartedly recommend your purchase of Cold Steel products.

Ok I bought mine for $50 on sale. It's a great value at that price. I don't know that I'd go for it for the $80 list price though. Just a really strong well made knife that fits perfect in the hand. It has become my go to 3" blade knife for EDC.

Even though it has the AUS-10 steel blade, it is still a nice EDC without overdoing the budget. Fits in the average pocket just fine without being too noticeable when you bend your leg (right-handed clip mount). The knife edge was very sharp and cuts through most everyday materials just fine. It has a nice hand feel and flips open with ease (of course you can adjust the center pivot screw to your liking). Build quality is great and mine had zero issues.

This is a great size edc knife. If the 4” or the 12” Recon is not your cup of tea. This should be a perfect size for your edc needs. Small lightweight, thin profile, but still big enough to do your everyday tasks. If you are a Recon fan, comes with the same great ergonomics, fit and feel of a Recon, and the great tri-ad lock. Even with the FRN scales it hard to tell it’s not G10. Aus10A steel really good budget Japanese steel. With CS heat treat and blade sharpness sets it apart. Full 3” of cutting edge, 4” handle. 3.4mm width on the blade, and a thin 10mm on the handle thickness. 3.5oz in weight. Perfect size and weight. You’ll really enjoy this Recon 1 Mini.

If you're a man & you do man-work, aka work with your hands, then you need a knife that's not hard to open with a reliable lock. It's not a "fidgeter" and you wouldn't want a fidgeter doing dangerous work, you want something you can roll open or flick open with your wrist one handed that won't open in your pocket when crawling on the ground or climbing which I've had happen with a knife on bearings. And it won't break loose and injure you severely. Heat treat is up in the air with GSM-CS post Lynn, but mine is ok I reckon. I suck at sharpening but I did sharpen it on my worksharp precision and it wasn't too hard. But if you want a slim front pocket knife, and you wear form fitting Levi 527's that you'll forget is there until you need it then this aint a bad purchase

I got the Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 with a clip point blade a couple weeks back and couldn’t be happier! I have a number of Cold Steel knives including a Large Voyager clip (in my bug out bag), an American Lawman (around the house EDC) , and a Medium Voyager Vaquero (BBQ backyard companion) - my mini recon brings together the of best of all 3 of these in a single knife! I love that the blade is a hair shaving sharp out of the box, has a 3” clip point (most practical shape for me plus legal length in San Mateo County, CA), has a high saber flat grind (sturdier than full flat or hollow saber grinds, but still super slicey), is stonewashed AUS-10A (maybe not a nice as S35VN, but still nicer than AUS-8A, as well as not as threatening as a blacked out blade), has extremely flat but grippy and comfortable scales with just the right amount of non-aggressive texture and heft, has superior security with the the Tri-Ad locking mechanism (best in the business!), has a solid and discreet pocket clip (note, I did upgrade this with a matte black deep-pocket clip for extra discretion - see photos), fully fits 4 fingers perfectly on the handle, and has great fit/finish, including perfect centering. All I needed to do (besides changing out the clip) was clean and lubricate the moving parts as well as strop the edge to get it perfect. It does it all - from heavy duty chopping/cutting work to detailed slicing/piercing tasks. Now I don’t leave home without it. Highly recommend!
