Poor fit and finish TUO boning knife
I ordered this for my mother-in-law because I know she likes this style of handle on a boning knife and I wanted to get her something with a higher quality of steel than she is currently using. I'm very disappointed with the fit and finish of the handle on this knife. All 6 exposed rivet heads are above the surface of the handle and make the knife feel awkward in my hand. There also doesn't seem to be any kind of finish on the handle to help it last.I ordered a paring/utility knife at the same time of another brand of knife with a demascus steel blade that was just a few dollars more and the fit and finish was beautiful. The blade is sharp and the knife looks nice if you don't look too close at the handle. I know this isn't a super high end knife but it isn't a Walmart special either. I don't think it matters how great the blade on a knife is, if it doesn't feel good in your hand you aren't likely to use it. Not sure if I'm going to try and order another one to see if this was a one off or if I'm just going to get the boning knife of the same brand as my wife's paring knife. My wife loves the feel of the handle of her paring knife but it is very different from this handle which is one of the things my mother-in-law is very particular about.

Built quality lacks... everything.
Label on a knife holder fell off while I was pulling box out of the box... Not greatest first impression. As noticed in some previous comments - handles are not comfortable and metal pins stick out and dig into your palm skin, feels like it's going to cut you.Handles itself feel little short and weird shape. Also as you can see in my pictures metal is already chipped. And finish is a little bit raugh. They are sharp out of the box, but I'm curious how long it would last.I'm going to try to use them for a bit to see if it could work for me, if not... Amazon return is not too bad.

Handle is very uncomfortable!
The handle slabs do not fit properly and as a result the sharp metal edge of the tang sticks out and digs into your hand. The handle pins are not ground flush and so their sharp edges stick out and also dig into your hand. There are many other knives out there in this price range that have a smooth, properly finished handle.

Basic set
The Good: This is a basic set of knives including a large chef knife, a smaller slicing knife, a bread knife, a utility knife, a paring knife, and a wooding knife block. All the knives come well packed in a box with plastic tip protectors. Some of the larger knives have plastic sheathes as well for the blades. Al the knives are then packed think plastic covers that cover the blades and handles. The handles are ergonomically shaped and guide your hand into a proper grip. I am right handed, but the grips would also work for left handed users as well. The knives have rivets which hold on the wooden handles. They are sharp, but that's what I'd expect from any new knives. The Bad: The blades all have "stops" near the handles that stop the knives from going through the knife block. When you use the knife, I feel like these "stops" will get in the way of cutting. All my other knives (MAC knives from Japan) are a single flat piece of metal with the handles riveted. Also, the name on of the knives are etched into the blades and you can feel the difference in texture when you wash and dry the knives. You will need to pay attention to this area when you clean your knives because food and bacterial will collect in these areas. When I washed the knives for the first time, I washed them one by one and set them on the counter until I was done to dry them all at once. I noticed that the color from the handles started to bleed in the water pooled on the counter. This bleeding should decrease as you wash the knives more, and of course, you shouldn't set your knives in pools of water, but it was quite unexpected. Only time will tell how long the knives remain sharp and honed. That being said, it greatly depends on how you use them and your own personal cutting technique. The bottom line: this is a great basic set of knives. For the cost, it's a good deal if you are starting out and need a basic set. This whole set and the knife block are the same cost as one of my high end utility knives. There are some issues, but for the cost, this is still a decent deal.Extra: If you are gifting these, per Chinese superstition, you should gift them with a $1 bill, and have the $1 bill returned to you so in essence, your recipient "buys" the knives from you. The Chinese believe that gifting someone a knife means that you want to cut off any relationship with that person.

Just the Needed Knives!
I had been searching for a new knife set for months when I came across this set. I'm so glad I did. Most knife in block sets come with 4 random steak knives that we never use. I have a full set of eating utensils and I don't need 4 extra steak knives! This set comes with the 4 main knives you need, Chef, Meat-Slicing, Paring and Bread. It also comes with a general Utility knife. More importantly, these knives are very sharp out of the box and well balanced. My wife did the strawberry test with the pairing knife and she loved it. I did the infamous tomato test with the big chef knife and it passed with flying colors! I also did the paper cutting test and it worked great. I love the look of these knives as well as the beautiful block. As I mentioned earlier, the steak knives are not needed and the block looks perfect with the proper utility knives. This set doesn't come with a honing steel but that works for me because I have a ceramic rod that I'll use when needed. The only slight flaw I found was that the metal in the handles is ever so slightly bigger than the wood handles so the finish doesn't feel as "polished" as most knives of this caliber. But I would still highly recommend this set!

Used/defective. FAST FAIR RESOLUTION
Product arrived in an unsealed well used box. Items appear used, with cosmetic damage. The knife block has a big gouge in the top. Knife handles not as described. They were unfinished, with sharp rivets sticking up. Does not appear to be G-10 as my others . I have other knives from this series, and they have polished, beautiful scales with smooth, flush mounted rivets, and highly polished steel. the metal is unpolished on this set, and 2 blades not even sharp. Pretty sure I got a returned defective item, even though I chose to pay more for NEW. Not at all what I expect from TUO products of which I own well over a dozen.Add:Handles appear to be pakkawood. After soaking in hot water overnight, the rivets are not so proud/sharp, but the tang edges are still very sharp. If they remain swollen, or swell further, they will be usable, but NOTHING like the others in this series.Add 2Handles still improving with humidity.Update:Within one day the Amazon contacted me to fix the problem. Since the knives are/can be serviceable, I opted to keep them rather than return. They repaid the agreed upon partial refund immediately. Excellent service and problem resolution makes up for a lot.

Beautiful blade, the handle plumped up after two washes.
UPDATED REVIEW:After putting the knife through a couple of dishwasher cycles, the handle plumped up and is now completely flush with the metal parts. I am now completely satisfied with it.Perhaps it spent a long time in a super dry warehouse, which dried the hand out.— — —Original Review:I already have one 5” Tuo utility knife so was looking forward to this one. But unfortunately the metal part of the handle is not flush and it’s not nice to hold. The metal part of the handle and the rivets are sticking out about half a mm and rub up against the skin during use. Very disappointing.

Fit and finish was horrendous, but customer service is beyond great.
Every single rivet is raised at least 1mm above the surface of the wood. The ENTIRE tang has the same issue around the entire handle. Not to mention, the accent rivet is scuffed terribly on both sides to the point of losing some of the black inlay. The wood itself doesn't even seem finished, and it still has sanding scratches. And to top it all off, the blade isn't even sharp. The protective plastic is a joke, because this is a glorified butter knife.Edit 1:I am editing this review, as I had customer service reach out to me and attempt to provide me with compensation for my grievances listed above. They sent me a fillet knife from one of Tuo's other series of knives (Black Hawk S) to try, free of charge, and although it was even less flexible than this version (EXTREMELY important for fillet knives), and the sheer weight of it was intense (heavier than my 10" chef's knife, somehow) the fit and finish was admittedly much better, and since that was my original complaint, I've added a star to this review for their more than acceptable customer service.Edit 2:I am once again updating my review, as customer service once again reached out to me regarding ways to increase my perception and overall satisfaction with my knives. The seller sent me a Falcon series filet knife to attempt to fix my complaints about the other knives. While this new knife is overall better, especially when considering my original complaints, there is still the issue of flexibility of the blade. If you're looking for a fillet knife that can handle beef, pork, or other dense meats, these are great knives, and should last quite a while, but they wouldn't be the best knives for fish, chicken, or other lighter meats that demand a flexible, thin blade. This Falcon model was more flexible than the original knife I ordered, and the Black Hawk S series, however. The lengths that the seller's customer service has gone to for my satisfaction are humbling, I am therefore updating my review to three stars.

Best knife we own by far
This is a great knife. It's weighted well and cuts through almost anything with ease.
