The Crunch and Other Stories [DVD]

Kneale before the king of TV suspense
Anything by Kneale is good TV and this is no exception. A straightforward thriller turns out to have a supernatural ending. It reminds me of a supernatural version of the film "Seven days to Noon". The extras are very good too.

Three Not Of A Kind, But A Nice Mixed Bag To Entice you.
Interesting trio of stories, though probably only of interest to archive tv enthusiasts. The `Crunch` is entertaining enough if taken into account this was made in 1964,still very early days in the world of television. `Ladies Night` i thought was very well written by Neale, and played out well by an impressive cast of actors, most of which were big `catches` at the time, for any tv producer.` Gentry` is an interesting, if slightly unusual, little gem of a story. I was most impressed by Daltery`s performance as the gangster looking for his ill`gotten gains. Much better than his movie appearances, he really looks comfortable in this role, and brings a lot of charisma to the story.Worth buying, for an enjoyable night in front of the telly. Bear in mind the different decades in which these dramas were made and you shouldn`t be disappointed.
