Blade Runner 2049

Blade runner
Not a Vangelis soundtrack as on the original 80”s Bladerunner. However, the composers of this sequel have managed to deliver a soundtrack which Is similar in composition and style of the late great Vangelis. You could almost believe Vangelis had a hand in this soundtrack.

Retires Other Blade Runner Soundtracks
When it was first announced that Hans Zimmer and Benjamin Wallfisch would be handling the scoring duties on the Blade Runner sequel most soundtrack fans wondered how on earth they could possibly compete with the landmark music score that accompanied the original 1982 film. Instead of merely competing, Zimmer and Wallfisch have created a modern masterpiece and a more than worthy successor to the classic original. The fact that the shadow of Vangelis' legendary, groundbreaking score hangs over this soundtrack should mean certain retirement for anyone attempting to replicate the original's achievement and yet, against the odds, Zimmer and Wallfisch actually manage it. And then some. The boys dusted off the Yamaha CS-80 and by returning to the past they've created a stunning new audio landscape of the future. The electronic soundscapes of 2049 glide and soar majestically with all the epic scale and beauty of the original Blade Runner but this time there's an industrial edge. This Blade Runner has teeth. Throughout the score there is a ferocious energy surging up in the music matched only by the moments when it becomes almost overwhelmingly beautiful.Unlike the soundtracks for the original 1982 Blade Runner, this OST for the 2017 sequel actually contains the music from the film. So Hans and Ben are 1 up on Vangelis already. None of the tracks have annoying dialogue excerpts or sound effects over them either. That's 2 up. I could go on but I've reviewed the other Blade Runner albums elsewhere and at this rate Vangelis will think I'm trolling him. He has the last laugh though - I'm up to my neck in Blade Runner albums all bought and paid for.The composers could have paid the ultimate tribute to Vangelis and left the opening title music for 2049 off the album. But no, it's there in all its glory. That's 3 - 0.Not only have Zimmer and Wallfisch crafted this toweringly magnificent score but it's captured for all to enjoy on this fantastic 2-disc set.Take that, Vangelis.Highly recommended.

Fantastic sequel Soundtrack.
Blade Runner 2049 is pretty much one of the greatest sequels ever made. The original film is a hard act to follow in both visuals and soundtrack. Luckily BR 2049 excells at both these tasks. The music of the original film was ahead of its time and still influences and effects many people today with its beautiful electronic soundscapes. Going into the new film the soundtrack was what i was most worried about after the less than fitting trailer music. However after watching i was pleasantly suprised that the composers had done a very good job of modernizing the iconic Blade Runner sound. The soundscapes have a new feeling and direction, the original Blade Runner had a very dark synth fairy tale like sound whereas the new soundtrack has more of a harsh and brutal feeling it is trying to convey, which to some may be a put off. Personally i though it was a very good soundtrack that honestly will never hold up to the original. But that dosn't matter, it has its own new sound and it suits the world and story very well. I would highly recomend this soundtrack to anyone interested in film scores, ambient genres or electronic music in general. The only negative i would have to say about this is a couple of the tracks are only the length of the scenes in the movie which is very annoying in any soundtrack, hopefully an extended release will follow in the future.

Blade Runner 2049 a huge leap forward.
When I first went to see Blade Runner on its original release (the version with the Harrison Ford voice over I was hooked. I know it was the Vangelis soundtrack that had a lot to do with that, it was music that pushed the boundaries. So when Blade Runner 2049 was announced for production I was thrilled but also dreading the release, I just wondered how the soundtrack could match up to the original. When hearing that Hans Zimmer was doing the soundtrack it was a bold move. After hearing the Zimmer soundtracks for the dark Knight trilogy & Dunkirk, I knew that the soundtrack would be very different. The new film is in my own humble opinion one of the best movies of the decade, and the soundtrack does take so much from the Vangelis original but B R 2049 soundtrack is also stunning, shocking, amazing, exhilerating in equal measure. I have seen B R 2049 so far 6 times in IMAX, 3D & regular version, obviously the IMAX is the most superior with the enhanced sound. I had to get the soundtrack just would love to have a CD as much as the MP3.

Zimmer does it yet again!
After seeing the movie in IMAX & experiencing the full force of yet another brilliant Hans Zimmer soundtrack I simply had to get this on vinyl!Lovely 2 disc package sadly not a gatefold sleeve but the inner artwork makes up for that with super glossy stills from the film.As for the sound, well it is breathtaking! acres of scale & depth & sound staging. The score is faithful to Vangelis's original 82 masterpiece & I believe he was involved in the production of the 2017 sequel. I love it when a score really does take your mind back to specific scenes in a film & Blade Runner 2049 does that superbly. Zimmer's use of weird & unidentifiable electronic keyboard sounds & almost seismic bass sounds is a real treat for the ears. 'Sea Wall' is a stand out example of what I mean here. The album was keenly priced too.Best played loud & on a decent system, in fact if i still worked in Hi Fi this would be my equipment test disc it is that good!

One of the Most Impressive soundtracks in years
Being a long time COLLECTOR OF CULT film and game ost's 80s/90s/00s and modern soundtracks.. I Have to say I really enjoyed this , and would rank it up amongst the best soundtracks of all time ( at least to my taste). Beautiful Piece of work, ( Not keen on the couple of old songs from Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley) but the rest ..WOW..so original..

Good Album
If you're a Hans Zimmer fan, you will like this album. I have several of his soundtrack albums, and now this one is one of my favorites. He collaborates with Ben Wallfisch on this soundtrack. Well done. There are five songsthat don't fit in with the Zimmer ambient tracks; two from Elvis, two from Sinatra, and one from Lauren Dangle. After I buy a CD, I always make a copy, as it will get dragged around my property, from my basement, to my "grow room", to my greenhouse, to my garage, and to my pole barn. I left off those five songs off when I made my copy, and was able to fit both CD's on to one CD. Good album. Buy It.
