Excellent Collection
Decades ago, I read some of the Wells books as a child, but I really like this edition. It includes his short stories including old favourites such as "The Time Machine". The editor has done we older readers a great service with a readable point size.

Good value for the price
I went for this because it was at the very good price of £17.00 and I see that it has gone up in price by £4.99 to £21.99 almost immediately, nice!I read The War of the Worlds when I was a teenager and enjoyed it. I have not read any of the others and thought it would be nice to read some of Well's other works, especially his first novel The Time Machine. The man was a true science fiction visionary, and although he did not invent most of these concepts (time travel is mentioned in an ancient Sanskrit poem from around 400 BCE) he was one of the first to write about them and make the genre popular. Because of this, to many he is considered the father of science fiction. For the price, this is a good deal, but please keep in mind that you get what you pay for. These are small paperbacks in a soft card box, and while they are very well presented, that picture on Amazon is a bit misleading. The box set is 20 cm tall, 8.7 cm wide and 13 cm deep, nowhere near as large at the Amazon photo would have you believe, please see the images I have provided for an accurate picture. These are not long books, The Time Machine is only 106 pages long and the longest, When the Sleeper Awakes, is only 262. The paper is a typical paperback cream colour, fairly smooth and also quite thin. Not Bible thin, but you can see the print from the adjacent page bleeding through onto the page you are reading. This might annoy some people and reduce their reading enjoyment, and while I am not sure it will annoy me, it is noticeable. Again, see the images I have provided.Because you are getting eight books for such a price, I am going to give this box set four stars. It's not the best and if you are interested, Amazon also sell six of his most popular books as a deluxe hardback set for around £35.

Excellent.
I was really pleased to purchase a collection of H.G.Wells novels. It is very difficult to find a great collection in book shops

Good collection for fans of classic sci-fi literature.
I bought these for my son as he loves all genres of classic literature. They are a really good although I am biased as 'War of the Worlds' is probably my favourite novel of all time. My son loves them and I would have given them five stars but the artwork let's them down. 'War of the worlds' looks more akin to the Spielberg movie than HG Well's original and the other covers look a little childish. I feel the set would have been better if the artwork was a reflection on when they were written, using (or being influenced by, the original artwork.
