Box set *by P***G on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 21 May 2013* I'll start with a couple of key things to remember when purchasing this; It's not like the games It doesn't strictly follow the same mechanics as the games It is a standalone box setI've read a lot of manga series, though admittedly mainstream stuff. I have read the Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver sections of Pokemon Adventures. This is much in the same line as those, however I didn't find it quite as entertaining.It is, in my opinion, a good set, and doesn't feel like it is being rushed, but it does feel very silly at times. I know the pokemon manga series isn't exactly fact, but one part of it, a certain very very large pokemon surfs on the main character's piplups surf. This mostly works to it's own advantage. The writers clearly know they are just writing to fans of the stories, there isn't anything of an introduction to the world so it makes a lot of assumptions there.A true honest part: I didn't enjoy these as much as the RBYGS volumes. But I'm 22. I really think these would be more entertaining to a younger person, perhaps as an introduction to the manga. It's not half as dark as the others get at times.Just as a price thing, the individual books are (at time of writing) about £3.40ish each, instead of the £4-5 standard price without a boxset.It really does depend on your reason for getting this. If you like the other series, this is a nice addon but I wouldn't say necessary. If it's choosing which to start to get a feel, this is a strong contender.please note: if first manga purchase, all pages inside are not in colour, just black ink, though don't be put off by thistl;dr: smart, but very silly at times.
