High-quality, gentle digestive support from a brand I trust
I chose this DGL Plus because I have LPR reflux and IBS, so I’m very careful about what I take and always look for gentle, non-irritating digestive support rather than anything harsh. This formula combines deglycyrrhizinated licorice with aloe, slippery elm and marshmallow, which are traditionally used to soothe and support the digestive tract. That’s exactly the kind of formulation I’m personally comfortable using as part of my routine. As with all Pure Encapsulations products, the quality is excellent: very clean, hypoallergenic ingredients, no unnecessary fillers, and easy-to-swallow capsules with no noticeable smell or taste. The expiry date on my bottle is February 2028, which is excellent and gives plenty of time for steady, long-term use. Overall, this feels like a well thought-out, high-quality product that fits very well into my own careful, gentle approach to digestive support.

Gentle on the gut and no nasty side effects
I started taking this during a particularly grim patch of heartburn and general stomach discomfort (too many late dinners, toddler stress, and grabbing whatever's in the fridge). I didn’t want to rely too heavily on antacids, so gave this a go – and it’s actually helped. It’s a nice blend – licorice root without the glycyrrhizin, so you avoid the issues with blood pressure, plus aloe, slippery elm and marshmallow root, all known for being soothing. I’ve been taking one or two capsules a day before meals and found it really takes the edge off that burny, bloated feeling I sometimes get. No side effects, no drowsiness, and doesn’t taste of anything (which is ideal, because licorice is not my thing). Capsules are easy enough to swallow, even when I’m tired and grumpy. Pros: Soothes stomach discomfort naturally No dodgy aftertaste or side effects Easy-to-swallow capsules Good mix of ingredients without the stuff that causes blood pressure issues Cons: Needs to be taken regularly – it’s not an instant fix Not the cheapest option out there If your digestion’s a bit temperamental and you want something gentler than meds, this is a solid option. It's made a difference for me, and I’ll keep it in the cupboard.

aggravates stomach acid
I tried this on 3 separate occasions and I had a burning sensation in my stomach every time. As I normally take DLC by a different brand and have no known sensitivity to other herbs in the formula, I believe this is down to added vit C which they listed as ascorbyl palmitate (antioxidant). Unfortunately vit C is highly acidic and been aggravating my stomach lining.

Side effects
These capsules gave me one of the worst migraines I have had for years, but I have no idea why as all the ingredients are natural. I normality take aloe vera liquid, marshmallow tablets and DGL chewable tablets and I'm fine. I thought these would enable me to take everything in one tablet but unfortunately they didn't suit me.

I wouldn’t bother
DGL means that the active ingredient, Glycyrrhizin Acid, has been removed making this and any other DGL Licorice utterly useless.
