Bontrager Trip 300/duotrap S Combo

great value with solid features
Somewhat simple design but it gets me what I want. Cadence is great for training and is easy to keep an eye on. Love the "start new ride" feature that triggers when you begin riding. Just say Yes to that prompt and it resets for your new ride. Great value.

Trip 300 and duo trap
My bike wasn't comparable with the duotrap s, I sold it for what I paid for it and purchased the regular duo trap. It installed easily and synced right up with my trip 300. So very pleased overall

Great Idea....poor execution
I bought a 2015 Trek FX that has a frame designed to receive this system. BEWARE - while the computer fits easily and nicely within the frame, the strength and location of the cadence magnet is too weak and too far away from the computer when it rotates around on the crank arm. The standard candence magnet that comes with this set leaves at least a 1/2" gap between the magnet and the frame, and I was consistently getting a ZERO read out on my CAD when riding. I wrote Trek and they said all they could do is warranty the part or send me a shim that would place the magnet closer. I already did that myself. I made a 1/4" shim from some UHMW I had at work and it worked for about 2 rides. On my third ride I was getting 40-45 read outs on my cadence. I average 80-85. This has been very disappointing, because everything else has worked great and I love being able to see my current and average MPH, distance, and time. However, you can get devices that will give you that for less. Buyer beware. Keep in mind my bike was built to receive this unit...and it still comes up short. I would not even attempt to use it if you don't own a Trek. Even then, I would not.

Works well in my 2015 Trek 7.2 hybrid. One battery per year. Maybe pull the battery when not in use. Loses odometer number.
Despite all of the bad reviews, mine works well on my 2015 Trek 7.2 hybrid. The DuoTrap S sensor fit nicely in my frame. (it makes for a really clean installation without the wires) To install it, you have to remove the plastic cover that is just meant to fill the hole in your frame until you install the sensor.I have had this for 3 years and every spring the battery is dead. (CR2032 is the battery) The battery is pretty common and I get them on Amazon or when I don't want to wait I get them at Target. (in the normal battery rack) My guess is that since it connects via wireless that it is constantly polling the sensor and that polling may be wearing down the battery. I have had computers where the battery lasts 5-6 years in the past. I assume the sensor has a battery but I have never had to change it yet. Also, I found that buying the sensor and computer separately was a better deal than buying it as a package deal. (at least it was in 2015) I bought the computer at the bike shop and the sensor online somewhere.I haven't had many issues other than the battery life. The cadence sensor took me a while to figure out though. I ended up facing it towards the sensor at the very end of the pedal and it worked. I don't use the cadence much though. I took a picture of my cadence sensor's location.I do agree with some reviewers here though, if your bike isn't a Trek and doesn't have the DuoTrap S hole specifically then I wouldn't expect it to work. Be careful there is a DuoTrap and a DuoTrap S. (different sensors...my wife's older Trek Madone uses the DuoTrap and not the DuoTrap S) I wanted a wireless sensor and I wanted to fill that hole in the frame. Bontrager is Trek and Trek is Bontrager from what I understand. This is a proprietary sensor made just for Trek bikes. As with any bike computer, the menus take a while to get used to and they don't have the most intuitive interfaces. Every time the battery goes out, I lose my odometer information. My old bike computers had batteries that would last for years and it would save the odometer information during a battery change. I almost want to take a star away for it not keeping my odometer reading.

I hated to press the buy button because of the mixed ...
I bought this combo for my Trek FX 7.5 a few weeks ago. I hated to press the buy button because of the mixed reviews. But, my bike was specifically designed for this sensor and computer, so my options were to buy this integrated system or to go the usual zip-tie wireless. So, I did not get my hopes up too much. I received it, installed the sensor into the frame, added the spoke magnet and then the medium sized cadence magnet onto the crank arm. Next, I installed the battery and completed the start-up prompts/questions on the computer screen. When I was done filling in the data it was asking for, it then attempted to "pair". It paired on the first try. No problems there. I spun the crank and it immediately picked up the speed sensor and cadence data. Just returned from over 120 miles over 4 days. Not a single problem to speak of. Worked as promised.May 10th, 2017 - works just fine a couple years later. I do not understand what the f*!# these s*&%!y reviews are talking about. Have hundreds of miles on this thing. Confused.

How does it work?
There is no wheel sensor. Is it supposed to connect to a satellite? a GPS system? I don;t know.I bought one, entered my data , went on a bike ride and nothing worked except for the clock. The manual is useless for trouble shooting. It is fine for learning how to enter data. It would be nice to know how it is supposed to calculate speed and distance.

3800+ miles and going strong!
This computer works well and I really like the duotrap in-the-chainstay sensor. Brilliant design! Not sure why other have issues, but I'd buy another of these in a heartbeat (though I don't think I'm going to need to)
