ART Precision vs DJ Pre II
I am writing this review because I was struggling to find direct comparison between the two popular preamps from ART - the DJ Pre II and the Precision Phone Pre, and hope this will add some value for someone who's in the same boat deciding.I had the DJ Pre II and recently bought the Precision Phono Pre. They are paired with my Rega Planar 3 and Denon amp which itself comes with a phono input. The DJ Pre II was a step up from Denon’s built-in phono preamp, slightly, but significant enough to hear a difference with wider soundstage and better clarity. The DJ Pre II has been around since 2012 and has well established itself over the years as one of the best budget phono preamps. 10 years later, the Precision Phono Pre is the new sibling of the DJ Pre II. The Precision gave better separation and slightly better clarity, especially with the mids and bass. The music “sings” better with the Precision as it is a bit more refined than the DJ Pre II. I did find it to be a bit more frontal rather than a soundstage expansion. In comparison, the DJ Pre II has a wider soundstage but lacks the clarity of the Precision. The two preamps are similar and perform well across different genres, both of them do not disappoint (jazz, classical, pop, soul…those are the stuff I have). But at times, the clarity and refinement of the Precision just give that little bit of an edge and “wow factor” I look for.Another difference is that the DJ Pre II comes with a 9V 110-120 vac power adapter, even though the preamp is rated for 12V. Luckily, I had a spare 12V adapter lying around and was able to up-power the DJ Pre II, which did improve the stability and performance of the preamp. The 9V adapter works fine, but really and truly, there is no reason why ART is supplying an under powered adapter. The Precision on the other hand is supplied with a 12V 110-240 vac with multiple country adapters, hence, this preamp is designed to be used anywhere in the world out of the box. Putting together the performance, adaptability of the MM and MC modes, and supplied accessories, those would make a sound justification for the slight price difference between the two.

High quality preamp at a decent price!
Preamp works very well, I have running into powered speakers and the sound quality is very good. I highly recommend this unit.

BUENO BONITO BARATO.

Prima Prima
