Deep-frying fanatics will LOVE this stuff!
One of the joys of a low carb/keto lifestyle is that you can deep fry to your heart's content without blowing your carb allowance. Keto batters and coatings are easy to make with pork rinds, almond flour, egg white powder, etc. Recipes are all over the Internet. I enjoy deep-fried shrimp, fish, chicken, you name it, all the while keeping true to my keto way of eating. The only thing that was stopping me was the oil. What to do with all that oil? Now, I have a marvelous Bravetti deep fryer, and it holds a LOT of oil. My fryer will hold an entire gallon before it reaches the max fill line. I use refined avocado oil, due to its very high smoke point and non-inflammatory quality. But avocado oil stays liquid at room temperature, and even refrigerated, it's still quite runny. You can't use it indefinitely - at some point, it needs to be changed out, especially if you're frying proteins. Ta-da! Oil solidifier! I never knew there was such a thing until someone in one of my Facebook keto groups mentioned it. I admit, I was skeptical at first. It seemed like people were just using it to solidify a little grease from frying pans. Heck, a half sheet of paper towel can sop up that little bit of fat. But, I took a leap of faith and ordered the LaSyl powder. I figured there would be enough in the jar to get at least one fryer's worth of spent oil fit for the garbage bag. I poured about half of the oil into an old Dutch oven, which was all it would hold, and just sprinkled the flakes over the top. I didn't even notice the little scoop, and I had no idea how many cups were in the pot. I probably used seven or eight scoops' worth on that first try. I stirred and stirred, but they didn't dissolve, so I heated the oil a bit and that did the trick. The oil was still very runny, but I decided to let it cool and see what happened. I figured I could always reheat the oil and add more flakes. What a surprise! A couple of hours later, I had a Dutch oven full of oil solidified to the texture of firm gelatin. It scooped easily out of the pot and into the garbage. No need for more flakes! I didn't need it to be solid and hard like some of the videos showed. I just needed it firm enough not to leak out of the bag. And I still had an almost full jar of the powder left! I'm beyond pleased with the LaSyl oil solidifier powder. There are lots of other brands and sizes available, and they probably work the same, but this large jar is perfect for a deep-frying fanatic like me. And it's totally safe and biodegradable, too, which is a big issue for me. Now, time to order some more avocado oil. I got me some fryin' to do!

Yes it really works
This stuff really works. I tried it for the first time last night and was amazed. I was apprehensive at first because it didn't work instantaneously. But it worked just like advertised. Definitely will buy again.

Best idea for cooking oil disposal!!
I didnโt even know this stuff existed until my niece told me about it. I ordered it immediately as I had a pan of oil I was dreading trying to get rid of. I was so impressed, but would love to have a scoop included in the jug as I just dumped some until it looked like the right amount. I no longer dread frying food due to oil disposal!

It does what it says!
I don't fry often, but when I do, I always struggle with what to do with the leftover oil. If I have an empty container, I would use that, but it can leak. I just have to remember to add the solidifier before the oil gets cold. The reason for the 4 stars is that once it hardens, it may be hard to remove from the pan. And if you don't have a strong enough plastic scraper, it will be hard to remove without something that may scratch your pans. But I still recommend it.

Amazing stuff, it really does work
This stuff really does work. As soon as I finish cooking, I add a couple of scoops to the oil and about an hour later it is ready to be thrown away. I do not have to worry about cooling the oil off, funneling it back into a container and trying to figure out how to dispose of it. With this, it is one simple step and into the garbage it goes. I am so happy that I found this product and will continue using it in the future.

As advertised
This works really well and is quite easy to use. Make sure to read the usage instructions as they might be counter-intuitive. The only thing is that this is no "instant" and will require some time for the oil to solidify, but it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Works greatโjust follow the 1 scoop per cup rule
The LaSyL natural cooking oil solidifier has made dealing with used frying oil much easier and less messy, and it does exactly what it promises when used as directed. After cooking, once the oil has cooled slightly, one level scoop per cup of oil is all that is needed; within a short time the mixture firms up into a solid mass that can be scooped out and thrown straight into the trash instead of risking clogged pipes. Because it actually solidifies the oil, there is no greasy residue left in the pan, which makes cleanup quicker and helps keep the sink and drain clear. The most important thing to know is that the instructions really matter: if too little product is used or it is added to oil that is still too hot, it will not set properly. Measuring roughly one scoop per cup and giving it time to work has been very reliable, and a single container stretches through multiple batches of frying oil. For anyone who cooks with oil regularly and wants a cleaner, more environmentally friendly way to dispose of it, this is an easy, effective solution that quickly becomes part of the kitchen routine.

A clean way to dispose of old cooking oil
Much easier to get rid of cooking oil and can be dropped directly into the green bin. However, I go by weight to determine how much to add to the hot oil. After frying for the last time with the old oil, I pour it into a stainless steel bowl and mix 120g of the solidifier (my fryer takes 3L of oil). By the morning, the oil is one big gummy blob that I just drop into the green bin. I use the kitchen scale to put exactly 120g of it. Works everytime.
