Good, but rough.
The metal ball joint is a good, solid joint. Much better than any all plywood models I’ve used. The opening mechanism needs refinement. It’s intended to have the moving jaw to “rock” open at a point and set of screws, whereas an actual hinge would benefit the pony a lot. The leather strips don’t cover all the corners and let the wood scratch my leather a bit. Plan on doing some sanding and adding more leather if you buy this. I will be looking into adding a hinge as I mentioned to see if that will help with the operation of the pony.

purchase only if you can make your own wood clamp keep metal base.
product was purchase mostly for the hardware. it was cheaper to buy a completed one so that I have the clamps then to buy the clamps separate. the wood is cheap and will work for the time being but in the warmer months when I can get into the shop I will need to rebuild the wood clamp part. the wood is a softer wood and they didn't use any wood in its construction. they used wood screws which I will replace with machinist screws since wood screws tend to snap under tension and there is no washers on the screws to spread out the pressure from the screw so the wood could crack under use.

Works great
Just as in the photo Adjustment mechanisems are great, really easy to use and no need to spin bolts for ages for every adustment.

Missing pieces
Its missing whatever screw is needed to attach the table clamp to the stitching pony. I ended up hot glueing them together and accepting the fact that I'll just have to spend more on a quality item a few months down the line. I'd send it back but then I'd have to take it all the way back to the post office and wait for it to get back to them. I'd rather use something now then wait 2-3 weeks for the return and reship process. Like others have said, its very cheaply made, you get what you pay for. The wood is cut pretty sloppily, tolerances are something they laugh at while eating lunch. It works but dont expect it to be something you have in your set of tools for long. If you have the money do yourself a favor and buy a quality pony and skip this one.

Poor quality
Don’t wast your money on this. The closing mechanism is garbage. It does not allow you to apply tension on the jaws without bending. The jaws are not hinged and instead flex on a screw. The ball mechanism is decent quality. After installing a hinge for the jaws and a bolt with a knob as the closing device it works decent.

Soft wood, poor construction
Avoid if possible.

Broken on arrival twice
The first time I got this, there was a lot of cosmetic damage and a scratch across wood and it couldn't open all the way. I ordered a replacement and the screw that tightens the pony came broken. I want to like this product, but I can't even use it.

It works
If your doing light work this will work. It could of been made better bottom plate on the lock was bent, after tightening the lock and snug all the screws down it works and says what it does. It's delegate tool so be delicate with it and do not over tighten or be forceful.

It arrived in a flimsy box that was damaged and open. There were parts missing and no instructions.
