Brilliant a work of a genius
I loved this book because it was funny, romantic and just plain geek. I reccomend it to anyone who would like to laugh, cry and learn lots of little facts along the way. The read brings you on an emotional rollercoaster as you follow Harriet on here path in modelling and family life. But there is a wonderful twist at the end, that really makes you want to smile. A truly amazing read and think it deserves more than five stars.

A fantastic follow up
I first became acquainted with the Geek Girl series and Harriet Manners a few months ago when I read the first book. Harriet became my hero at this point, and I couldn’t wait to read more about her adventures! The second book in the series, Model Misfit, does not disappoint. It’s six months later and Harriet is still modelling, her stepmother is heavily pregnant and even more importantly, she is still a geek! Not much seems to have changed in Harriet’s life, apart from the graffiti on her bag becoming more creative. We join Harriet on the day of her last exam. Which she manages to turn up to painted gold and wearing a shredded sweatshirt following a modelling shoot. See, totally normal!I love that Harriet hasn’t become any more refined or less clumsy despite her new status as a teen model. She is still as accident prone as ever, and when reading her adventures you are guaranteed that hilarity will ensue! And this time, Harriet’s adventures take us across the world to Japan for a shoot with Yuka. She shares an apartment out there with two other models, including Japanese girl Rin, who is one of the funniest characters I have come across for a while! Rin is obsessed with all things Australian and is trying to learn English. That’s when she’s not dressing up her cat, Kylie Minogue, in clothes to match her own Harajuku fashions! And we can’t forget Lion Boy. He is very much a feature in this book even if it’s not in the fairytale fashion I think we would all like yo read about. You will have to read the book to find out how it turns out though! Harriet’s eccentric grandmother Bunty also makes an appearance in this book and I hope we see more of her in the next book in the series. As I’m sure you can tell from all of my gushing, I really enjoyed this book. I read it in 3 sittings as I just couldn’t get enough of it. It would have been fewer if I hadn’t had to get up for work the next day! I believe that the Geek Girl series is due to be a trilogy, but I really hope that Holly a Smale can write us more Geek Girl stories than that. I really don’t want to think that the next book might be the last!A fantastic series from a British YA writer. And Harriet is definitely a better role model for girls than many others I can think of (*coughs*…Miley Cyrus…) and you should all go and buy it and stay up all night to read it!!

Another winner.
I LOVE Harriet and hope there is another book after this. This is another very entertaining book about Harriet's experience of the world of modelling. As usual, when Harriet is involved, mayhem ensures and it is laughs abound for the reader. After being dumped by Nick, Harriet has to watch as he is introduced as the boyfriend of her new flatmate. Can she pretend she is as unaffected by this, as she wants to be. Loved reading this book. Can't wait to see what Holly comes up with next.

Holly’s writing style is absolutely spot on.
After reading Geek Girl at the beginning of last year, I was looking forward to catching up with Harriet and Nick. This book starts at the end of the school year and Harriet and her friends are breaking up for the summer holidays. Harriet has made a comprehensive spreadsheet of all the different activities Nat, Toby and her can take part in over the summer. However, when Nat declares she has to go to France as punishment over the holidays, Harriet feels disappointed. She needs to find a way to keep herself busy that doesn’t include hanging out with her embarrassing dad and her pregnant step mum. Cue the modelling job of a lifetime: Tokyo.Harriet flies out to Tokyo and begins her modelling job but as always, things don’t quite go to plan and with an irresponsible grandmother, two new flat mates, Wilbur the camp as anything agent and Nick all in the mix, something is bound to go terribly wrong.Holly’s writing style is absolutely spot on. For a younger reader it is littered with comical slapstick moments but then for an older reader it is also laced with wit and irony which adds a whole new layer to the plot. The idea of Toby being Harriet’s ‘stalker’ is just brilliant and Wilbur as a character is, what I imagine to be, a cross between Alan Carr and Gok Wan. I also love the addition of Harriet’s father and step-mum; they are the typical, cringe inducing, embarrassment of parents that we are all used to.Harriet is a really great character to go on a journey with, there is always some kind of drama waiting for her around the next corner but it’s always exciting and quite reassuring to see her deal with all of the problems and come out of the other side as a much more experienced and well-rounded character. Nick is also a character I love and if it wasn’t inappropriate to fancy a fictional young boy, then I would fancy him; he’s just the kind of fictional boy you want to read about when you’re a young teenage girl. The plot was very clever and I didn’t pick up on what was happening straight away, it took me a while to predict where the story would go and even then, it was a bit of a surprise: a fantastic achievement in children’s books! The pacing of Geek Girl: Model Misfit was near perfect, there was a reason for me to keep turning the pages and even though I didn’t ‘race’ through the pages to reach the conclusion, I certainly found myself reluctant to put it down.I believe we will be treated to yet another book in the Geek Girl series this year which fills me with great happiness! Long may Harriet Manners continue to have comical adventures so we can read all about them!
