I can't see how to attach a volt 100xc, is there an adaptor needed?

Sorry. Not sure. I use the volt 400. And it fits fine if you light has the same connection it should be ok .

Can the light fitting be removed so a different light can be mounted on the bracket?

Are you suggesting switching the plastic part for one from an alternative light? If yes, then probably. From memory you would just remove the bolt, take out the plastic part and switch it, but you would be paying a fiver for a piece of bent wire and a bolt. I returned mine because when fitted above the front wheel at the mudguard mounting position, the light interfered with the brake cables' freedom of movement when the handlebars were turned.

There is no 'spring' on the bracket. The male part of the fitting, attached to any light that is clipped into place, contains a plastic 'spring' allowing the light to be locked into place. To release, one releases this spring with a press of the finger.

Does this need a washer? and which washer should be used for a Brompton?

It doesn’t ‘need’ a washer, it’s very well made, The bolt won’t splay the wires, if that is your concern. Having said that, I put a stainless washer between the bike and the bracket, so no pressure points on the frame paint. And under the nut, so the bracket doesn’t turn with the bolt when you tighten the nut. In my mind it is odd that a washer isn’t supplied. Mine is mounted on the threaded fork-crown lug on after-market forks from St John’s street cycles. I’m lucky enough to have a few old washers ‘in the drawer’ as it were: 5/8’’ fits nicely!!
