Hi The filter can be removed and cleaned very easily.

Q: Is this dishwasher safe?

I would not recommend placing this in a dishwasher - both the glass teapot itself and the strainer/plunger assembly. The glass, while heat resistant, can be chipped which makes the teapot prone to subsequent breakage.I clean everything from time to time by soaking with bleach, diluted to about 1/3rd strength.The brown tannic deposit is not detrimental to flavour, btw!

Q: Is it easy to empty and clean the filter?

Yes, the filter simply lifts out of the teapot. Drain off any excess water and tap out the tea leaves, then rinse the filter. The metal filter will become stained by the tea. You would need to use an appropriate stain remover should you wish to clean it?
