These are compact, clean, and quality. The pans are bigger than you think. They activate very quickly but a wee spray of water at the start of your painting session and it’s even quicker. Juicy, opaque, Matte, highly pigmented gouache. I will buy again when it’s used up( though I believe that will be a little way off due to size and colour pay off!)

These are just lovely , easy to mix so many different tones and shades , they layer beautifully without lifting what’s underneath. Very opaque with little effort but also work well with more water . I’m looking forward to practicing and trying different techniques. Perfect for multi media ( I used watercolour for the background and coloured pencils when everything was dry ) . Great price , they’re nearly £40 in uk art shops on line . ( cult pens sell the individual pans so easy to replace but I think they’ll last ages ) .

I'm really pleased with this set. I'm very sensitive to odour and the tubes of gouache I've previously tried have a smell which is unpleasant and distracting for me, so this is a perfect no-hassle, odour-free alternative for me. I like the fact that it's all included in the tin (which is also a palette) for convenience.To achieve opaque paint for the traditional gouache look, I add a few drops of water to half of each pan before starting to paint, which makes a small well of thick creamy textured paint. I can then mix colours together and/or with the tube white (which is virtually odourless) to create the colour I want. (If you just use a wet paintbrush on a dry pan, the effect is much less opaque - more like watercolours).For me personally, this is a great set. It's really easy to use, odourless, and has a decent number of colours for a starter set.

I did not know you could get gouache paints in a pan, instead of a tube, so i was thrilled to find these - and also that they are made by Caran d'Ache, who are an extremely good "make". I have given them a quick try out and they do not disappoint - when mixed with a little water they are lovely and opaque and for a more transparent colour you mix them with more water. I shall most definitely buy these again. I wonder if they make bigger paintboxes with more colours - say 24 pans? That would really be terrific.

I bought these paints having previously been working with the W&N tubes, as I thought gouache pans would be incredibly convenient for sketchbooks and painting when out and about. I was pleasantly surprised to find how effective these gouache paints really are! A few colours are extremely matte and opaque right out of the pan (especially the medium grey, which is perfect), but most come out semi-opaque (but often dry more opaque than they look - I was very impressed by the yellows once they dried). Overall the opacity is quite impressive, and certainly more gouache like than watercolour like. A trouble with this set is that many of the pans look darker than the paint colour you get once you wet it and start using it, but you get used to this very quickly. The white is excellent, and creates flat, opaque paint when mixed with the pan colours really easily. One of the great benefits here is that it is very easy to mix the paint to the consistency you need for even coverage with no brush strokes, which can be harder with tube paints. The lid doubles as a pallet, and the brush provided is quite nice. Having produced a few paintings with this set, I've found I've been able to work in a typical gouache style that I would with my tubes (minus any impasto technique that you might need very thick paint for), they're high quality and hugely convenient. The only major downside is they don't appear to sell gouache pans individually, so if you run out of a particular colour you can only replace it by buying a complete set.

Really like this set of paints. Much less wastage than using tubes and a nice selection of colours. Although the initial outlay seems a little expensive, I've no doubt that these will last far longer than the tubes of paint. The paint is smooth, gives good coverage and can be watered down to achieve the consistency and opacity required. Would definitely buy again.

lovely product. I had not been aware of gouache pans before and thought they would be too much like watercolours, but the opacity is excellent. Lovely solid colour and great to mix. Fast delivery.

I lovee these gouache pans! The pan size is actually big and there’s lots of paint so you don’t have to worry about running out of paint anytime soon. I love the idea of gouache in pans since it’s easier to travel with and less messier. I’m also new to gouache and I find these to be super easy and fun to use. You just need to place water on the pans, wait for it to activate or lather the pan with the brush and then you get loads of pigment and paint on the get go! This definitely made gouache my favourite medium to work with. Planning to get these again in the future:)

Da ich nicht so ganz von dem Gouache Hype überzeugt bin, wollte ich keine Tuben, die im Zweifel austrocknen, kaufen, sondern habe diese Gouache Tabletten Farben vom Flaggschiff Hersteller gekauft, so dass ich nicht unter Zeitdruck stehe, diese benutzen zu müssen.Ich bin damit sehr zufrieden. Die Farben sind allesamt sehr gut pigmentiert und ich erziele ein schönes Ergebnis damit. Das preis-leistungsverhältnis ist sehr gut und der Kasten ist ,verglichen mit anderen Produkten dieses Herstellers, bombastisch günstig - von mir einen Daumen hoch.

After looking around for a "good" set of gouche, reading reviews I decided to get this set. Mainly I liked the idea of pans, it is cleaner and so convenient, since they dry out fast once you are done you can just close the lid and go. But I was worried about the consistency, the opacity and their ability to cover. I am rather new to this medium and so far I have been using those jelly cups gouche, which is the reason I started looking for something else in the first place. Those work fair enough but they are so messy, so streaky and the container weights a ton, so ugly! Okay enough, lets go back to these ones :-). I understand this is not an Artist quality gouache and that some people are concerned about their lighfastness of their pigments, although some claim to have contacted the company and have been told most of the colors in these palette have a very good lightfastness except for a couple of them. (Purple and the pinkish one) In my case I am not concern about their lighfastness, since I want to use Gouache for paintings and Illustration mainly in a sketchbook.Since this set has such good reviews from fellow artists who do Gouache, I figure I give them a try. They are not expensive and you have plenty of colors to play around for a while. They are not Windsor and Newton designers Gouache, or Holbein etc nor should we compare them to them, but they are great for what they are, good for practicing, learning and sketching. The brush which comes with it is simply awesome!! If you are picky...maybe get the Windsor and Newton (big) white tube of Gouache and you are set for a while. The little white gouache which comes is fine but probably not as good the Windsor and Newton, anyway at one point rather soon you will be out of white so then get yourself W &N.I am very happy with this choice, I know I will have to get Windsor and Newton Designer's Gouache anyway if I want to do the "real thing" as for Illustration, but this set is still a must have if you like plein airpainting, sketching or like to take your paints with you. The box is large but very sturdy, still way better than carrying tubes, palette, knife etc. So there it is, I recommend this Magic Red Box of Wonders to all of you kids (from 3 to 90) who like painting and stuff. You won't be sorry!*I almost forgot you see I have cats....they walk all over my paints, drink my watercolor water, knock palettes, chew brushes...another reason I am dreading buying tubes or don't do Oil or Acrylic anymore. But this one I can simply close the lid, I have lids for the water, mixing palette etc LOL. You know, I stand a minute from my desk and they mess around with everything. You know what I am talking about if you have cats or dogs :-) Now If your dog runs away with this box the paints will still be good for you to use hahahaha.
