I feel for it's time this movie had some great special effects and the "spider walk" still has the hairs standing up on the back of my neck on every watch, the overall quality of the Blu-ray is awesome and well worth the extra few pennies over the normal DVD and managed to get my copy on desertcart for £5.99 as it was reduced at the time, but it is still worth the price tag of £7.99 although you can get a steal on the used copies. I would rate this film certainly in my TOP ten of favorite watches and would certainly recommend you give it a try or simply update your old copy to the all dancing Blu-ray offering as you will not be disappointed at all. They simply don't make horror stories like this anymore and the sequels are NOT worth a watch and trust me on that one as have seen them all, the original by far the best and so glad I spent a few bucks and updated my older version from DVD. The director the film certainly created a masterpiece here and knew what he wanted on set and had a version on how he wanted this movie to look and feel, and to think the whole thing was almost canned after production. So it is 5/5 from me as it holds it's own all the way since the release of the movie in 1974..

Still holds up today.
This is undoubtedly the king of 70s horror movies and a must have for any worthy horror fan to have in their movie collection ad not only do you get the original theatre version but the 2000 directors cut in this set with the classic spider walk reinstated along with extra scenes, The Exorcist caused mayhem among movie goers at the time of release in 1973 and although the passage of time may have dampened the shock factor for todays audience the movie still stands alone as one of the great horror classics of the 20th century and as far as i am concerned always will, The Exorcist has never looked better thanks to this Blu ray release and though it might look a little dated it still holds it's magic for us of a certain age who were around on the first cinema showing and still gives you chills with every viewing and for me it's an honor to own this Blu ray version and takes pride in my collection and as for Linda Blair's performance as Regan she still scares the hell out of me to this day i highly recommend this film be added to your own collection it's a true classic.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
An all scariest movie based on a true event t hat really happened. This 1973 film was qui te controversial when released as there peo ple outside of cinemas requesting others no t to see it because of its religious overtones. However, over the years it has become a cul t film and this blu ray edition has both the o riginal cinema release and an extended versi on showing the spider walk down the stairs ase which was deleted from the cinema rele ase. Quite scary in its day but tame nowada ys. See for yourself.

A tribute review to simply the greatest movie ever made
Its easy to just look at the shock factor of this movie (which was incredibly radical in 1973, and still resonates today) and miss everything else going on with it. Firstly, the acting. absolutely first rate throughout, in particular from the amazing ellen burstyn and jason miller. So many little storylines going on throughout, including Millers guilt about his mother which is very well handled and adds some quite poignant moments. The whole vibe of the film is incredibly realistic, more so than any other movie i can remember, giving it an almost documentary feel. this is due in part not only to the actors performances but also the fabulous cineamaphotography which gives it unparalleled atmosphere it really is quite incredible to consider that this was made nearly 40 years ago. All these years later, it still stands as the ultimate horror film. Nothing that has been released since can even come close to it, regardless of how much blood, gore and shock moments theyve tried to throw at us across the years. The exorcist stands head and shoulders above them all. But it should also be remembered and watched again and again for all the other aforementioned artistic flourishes that make up the whole picture - this is NOT a mere horror flick. Its quite beautifully done and is stunning to behold. Has there ever been a film that truly captures the essence of evil? i defy anyone to sit in and watch this film on their own. If you say you do, then youre a liar my friend! praise be to william peter blatty, william freidkin and the cast and crew of this amazing film that will forever be the ultimate movie experience

The power of Blu Ray compels you!
The film is great of course, but lets skip straight to this Blu Ray edition and what's new and what's great. Firstly, the picture has been scrubbed up nicely and is head spiningly crisp but not without grain, and you get both versions of the movie, but the original is still the best despite what William Friedkin says about the frankly unnecessary Extended cut (which was a concession to writer Blatty and adds nothing to the movie apart from some dodgy demon faces on walls, doors and cookers!). The special features are pretty good but not completely exhaustive, but we do finally get to see the full version of Mark Kermodes excellent documentary Fear of God. The other good stuff is the on-set footage with previously unseen behind the scenes stuff fans will lap up. One thing which I did find a bit bizarre in the documentary was Blatty, Blair and Friedkin saying The Exorcist isn't really a horror film but a theological, supernatural thriller. Erm, right. Bit pretentious of them to say that because if this movie aint 100% scare the s**t out of you horror, I don't know what is. I think what they were trying to say is that this is a classy, one-of-a-kind movie which I do agree with, but this is a horror film through and through and one of the very best in the history of the genre.
