Whiskey Lore's Travel Guide to Experiencing Irish Whiskey: Learn, Plan, Taste, Tour (Experience Whiskey)

I traveled to Ireland through this book.
I learned so much about Irish Whisky by reading this book. I felt like I was in Ireland at times while reading and even though I am not a connoisseur of whisky, I feel like I have the tools to experience a tasting or talk knowledgably about the history of how this drink developed over time. The book is laid out in such a way that it is very readable or it can be used as a guide as you explore the whisky in your local store or travel abroad to experience the distilleries. As I was listening to my brother talk to my son about Irish whisky being distilled I understood pot still, poitin and knew that the whisky has to be aged three years to be considered true Irish Whisky. All of this I knew from this book.

Discover the real depth of the water of life
The Whiskey Lore's Travel Guide is a practical and easy to follow guide for exploring Irish Whiskey. The book covers history, the rules of whiskey and the steps of whiskey production. The details are thorough and complete. One of the most valuable points in the chapter on tasting was Hannush's encouragement to "go deeper than smooth" in describing the appeal of a certain whiskey. The term has become very popular and has prevented us from further defining the many possible flavor experiences. (Check out the Whiskey Lore Flavor Wheel.) Part 4: Profiles: Your Guide to Irish Whiskey Distilleries were very detailed and appropriate for first time or experienced travelers. I was thinking back to my trip to Ireland years ago and all that I missed during by brief whiskey exploration. Next time, I will be sure to be better prepared.

The Definitive Guide to Irish Whiskey and a Fun Read
If you are familiar with Mr. Hannush's work, you know he sets a high bar. This does not disappoint. Well researched (with boots on the ground), well written and entertaining. Most of us won't be on a tour of Ireland any time soon, but this is an invaluable resource for those just getting into whiskey, or those who consider themselves experts. I hope many of these brands find their way to Middle America soon.If you aren't a subscriber to Mr. Hannush's podcasts, do so now. Very informative and interesting.Slainte maith!

Oh great, now I have another vice
I really didn't have much of an opinion about Irish whiskey, but I loved the author's previous book on Bourbon so much that I decided to give this one a try.Irish whiskey is not at all what I thought it was and the book gave me a good education. I'm not going to Ireland anytime soon, but there are some great Irish pubs in my area with a wide variety of whiskeys, so I plan to use the book to pick some to try, then learn about their history and methods from the tour section.

Booking my flight!
Drew has done it, he has officially got me to spend more money on a plane ticket. I've always been a fan of Irish whiskey and considered myself well versed in it, but this book took it to a new level. Given that my wife is not a whiskey drinker, the nearby recommendations to the distilleries helped me convince her the trip was going to be awesome! If you are looking to going to Ireland this book is essential!
