The Tailors Clapper is a must have for sewing and ironing. It is used to press seams without burning. I discovered the clapper while I was taking a sewing class on making jeans and wondered how I ever sewed without it. Now, I use it on everything I make. Using with steam from your iron, press the area with the clapper and hold for just a few seconds. It will leave a nice crisp seam. We offer this handmade clapper in Oak. It weights about 12 oz and measures 9 ½” inches long, 2 1/2 inches wide tapered down to 2 inches and is 1 1/2” thick. Both sides have routed grooves to offer easy handling and is unfinished to better absorb steam. Colors may vary from the above picture. They may be lighter or darker depending on the variations of color in the wood used. Weight may also vary based off density of the wood used.

Old School but a Must Have
I can't really add anything else to the reviews. I get the " you paid how much for a piece of wood?" Until they see how it works. I can appreciate the smoothness of an unfinished block of oak such as this. That piece of wood does amazing things with the iron and fabric. I've read about tailors clappers in older garment making books and some of the newer ones but always listed as a nice to have. Should be listed as a must have right after an iron. It's the price of McDonald's for two, give it a try. Made in USA.

Great tool
Saw these clappers on a sewing video and since I love sewing and quilting gadgets, I had to add it to my collection. So glad I did. This thing works wonders, makes my seams nice and flat and stable, no stretching or distorting. If you quilt or sew, I highly recommend this product.

Excellent Quality Medium Tailor's Clapper
Medium size works well for my projects. I enjoy using it because it is so professionally made. It is obvious the person who made this cares about the quality of their work. It is easy to hold and smooth as can be.

Well Made Product
I’m new to garment making and this company was highly recommended for its quality products made in the USA. It’s easy to handle and works great on seams that are stubborn. A little steam and a good press with the clapper makes even a new sewist feel like an expert.

It works
I have been sewing for over 40 years, recently started quilting. I have worked to try to get my seams to lay flat, especially where there are a lot of seams, and I have not been satisfied most of the time. Saw someone demonstrate the tailor's clapper on a quilting video so thought I would give it a try. It really works! Why, in all my years of sewing, have I never heard of this wonderful, simple tool??? I highly recommend it to anyone who sews, but especially to any piecers and quilters. You won't regret it.

Wonderfully Smooth, Warm Finish
I absolutely love this clapper. I worried about buying one online, but this one not only has none of the slivers nor rough spots I was worried about, it feels and smells like a handmade hardwood art piece my father would have made in his wood shop. It is smooth and warm and smells like hardwood. Last but not least, it does its job: it sets seams beautifully!

A sewers must have
Used one 50 years ago when I started sewing in school. Never thought I really needed one until last year. Perfect size, sets the seams by absorbing the heat when held on a seam. It’s a must have for any sewing.
