This Stuff Really Really Works!
So about a year ago, I get it in my head I really want to remove this boulder in my backyard, I go to Home Depot, rent a huge jack hammer and spent 10 hours straight chipping away at it almost to feel like I was getting nowhere. It turns out it was very hard granite and alas I was defeated, and kind of gave up altogether. Recently I had done some research and came across Dexpan and I must say, I was skeptical. So I ordered a bucket for $39 and luckily my old job let me borrow their combination rotary- jack hammer with an 1 3/8 bit. I had read they recommended 1 1/2 but I figured it couldn't be a big deal. I spent about 7-10 minutes a hole drilling holes 18 inches deep across the boulder about 9 inches apart until I figured I had it pretty much covered and then I watched the Dexpan video one last time. It was very straight forward, even down to the use three water bottles of water for one 11 lb bag. I mixed it all in a 5 gallon bucket and started pouring it in. I filled probably about 16 of the 21 holes I drilled and felt like an idiot because I was on the fence about ordering two buckets but I figured let's see if this works before I order another. I come back about 5 hours later, and I see nothing, no cracks, and now I'm thinking this was a total scam but I had to leave for work anyway so I'm like let's see how it looks in another 8 hours. I can't begin to describe how thrilled I was when I came home from work, there was giant cracks all over the boulder from the holes I had filled and I had to restrain myself from starting to pry at it because it says wait 24 hours. When that time finally did come, I went out there with a san angelo bar, and that boulder just started breaking apart at the seams. I've since ordered a second bucket and as I type this, I have fresh Dexpan in the rest of the holes and I'm waiting for it to break apart what's left of the once impenetrable rock.

Does just what it says
100% would recommend to any one who has an significant concrete demolition work, but doesn't have access to heavy duty/industrial jack hammers, or are in a residential environment and don't want to be hated by your neighbors :DI had to break up a set of old concrete stairs on my own, and this just worked exactly as advertised. I didn't have the recommended/required 1 1/2" drill, but it worked with my 1" drill. It says for best results leave for 24 hours, and while that certainly does the bulk of the work, there were a few cases where not everything had broken, and after chiseling for a few hours I called it quits for the day, and the next morning found that the regions had further broken, so if you're in that position it might be worth giving an additional day to maximize the amount of success. One thing to note is that it does result in a lot of dust that I assumed would not be healthy - I don't recall in the instructions said to wear a mask, but I did and I'd recommend it, but also it was helpful to have a shop vac (or whatever) around while pulling the broken concrete apart.

I love this stuff
I’ve used three or four buckets of this stuff. It always works great and breaks every rock I’ve put it in. Beats the heck out of using a jack hammer and is faster/easier.

Best Product For the Job
I've bought this product 3 times already for various rocks around my property. The first time was a learning experience (don't use Type 3 in New England, you will turn the drill holes into mortars of expansive grout). After realizing that Type 2 is the preferred type for my region/rocks, it's been the perfect product, the rocks typically break in 24 hours. Will be buying more when the need arises.

worked well, when it worked
we used this product attempting to remove a 6-8 inch concrete slab on a house we are renovating. weather conditions appear to affect the effectiveness of the product. it took longer than 24 hours to break the concrete as well. we did this in sections. the first took 7 days to really crack well. the temp dropped on the second section and it didn't crack. we had selected the option that should have fit our average temps. I'm sure this would work well for thicker slabs and boulders, but pay attention to the directions. saved us some labor so was worth the price. start along the edges of your concrete. it has to have space to move as it cracks.
