Deeply black, but not worth it - Get something Waterman or Noodler's!
A deep black coloured ink which is thankfully all I wanted for some time to deal with writing up essays and completion of exams during the period however, it's only really good for use on dense fountain-pen paper such as Leuchtturm notebooks or one of those really nice Oxford campus notebooks, even then there is some show through as on cartridge/exercise book (school provided ones) it will usually bleed. It also has a rather long dry time (took about 20 seconds with a semi-flex and 10 with a normal dry nibbed Western F).Despite these comments, it is a good ink if you have enough time to spare, unfortunately I had neither time nor patience to deal with the feathering during my exams thus I switched from using a fountain pen to a regular biro midway through. For more forgiving ink I would suggest taking a look at inks by Waterman and/or Noodler's inks as they dry quickly and are very friendly to lower quality paper.Summary:+ It is a nice deep black, almost pigmented looking.+/- Not too pricey however there are more for the same/similar price- Lots of show through on bad paper, medium/low on higher quality paper- Takes way too long to dryConclusion: It's not really worth it given it takes long to dry, you can more than likely get better ink at a much more accepting price point and well, I assume because it's Sheaffer there's not too much thought into quality as they have changed over time.

Not a true black but deep violet
Good quality ink and very similar in colour upon dilution when washing a nib to that of another famous brand's black. Shaeffer was a brand not regularly used when fountain pens were last in frequent use as most outlets (generally high street stationers) all appeared to sell just one brand and was therefore purchased from pen specialists when possible. On paper, this ink does not have any obvious hints of violet or feather at the edges of written characters into blue, brown or green which some do. It is possible that the formulation may have changed since it was last purchased and used as there is no recollection of the violet undertone way back when. Whilst not claimed to be 'washable', it is more easily removed from the skin (it is almost impossible not to sometimes get some on the fingers either from the bottle rim or the droplets adhering to the nib or pen grip during filling) and then left far less of a residual stain on the first wash.

What can you say about ink?
I use a fountain pen daily, well several pens, they are such a joy I have gathered many.It helps me cope with mountainous paperwork associated with my job as I love to use them, find my hand writing is easier to read and as a person with gammy hands I also find it less painful over time.I have used Parker ink , because it is ubiquitous in the 3d shops, Lamy because I have many Lamy pens and the bottle is the very best design for filling pens - streets ahead of the other manufacturers.I bought this just because it was significantly cheaper at the time (they vary tremendously).I have never noticed a difference between the inks particularly but there feels to be one here.It flows through the pens beautifully.

ONLY good for fountain pen paper.
The ink is brillant if you are using high quality fountain pen paper, but if you can't afford it and use normal paper it is terrible. The ink gets absorbed very easily, bleeds and feathers ( never happened with parker quink ink). So to conclude if you're going to use it on high qulaity fountain pen paper go ahead it will do very well, but if not don't buy it you will be very disappointed.I would recommend the Parker quink ink for cheap paper.
