will this work for a canon eos r ?

No it won’t work with an EOS R. It only works with new Canon cameras with the multi-function shoe. You can find a list of compatible cameras on the Canon specs page for the EL-5.

Hi. does this flash work on the canon eos r camera? not the canon eos r line, the actual canon eos r model camera.

It's only compatible with newer cameras (R7,R10,R3,R6II) with the multi-function hotshoe.

The EL-5 doesn't come with a charger? Can it be charged installed using USB?

EL-5 doesn't come with a charger and has no USB port. You can use LC-E6 or LC-E6E to charge the battery. My R6 mark II comes with LC-E6E so I don't have to buy another one.
