BabyDan FlexiFit in diagonal configuration, with excellent product support
As our grandson gets much more mobile, my wife and I wanted a stair gate at the top of our stairs. Since stair gates should not open out over the stairs, a "normal" stair gate would have either had to open over our stairs OR cut off half of the top landing area, neither option was acceptable for us. I decided to use the BabyDan FelxiFit in its "diagonal mode". Which works perfectly. When open it swings back against the wall out of the way. When closed, it stops our grandson from going down our stairs until we are with him. Even better, when our grandson is not with us, it can be removed almost entirely. Assembly was very easy, the enclosed assembly manual was very easy to follow, picture by picture. The resulting stair gate is very solid. As you can see from my photos, I had to add a strip of wood to the bring the wall out to match the width of our base board / skirting (the top and bottom "hinges" of the BabDan need to be aligned so that the stair gate can swing correctly). I also installed the stair gate in almost its full extension. So as shipped, the gate can shrink or extend to cover the widths of almost any opening. The BabyDan support site was very helpful, as I could download the assembly manual before my purchase to see if and how it might work on our stairs. Unfortunately the stair gate, as shipped, accidentally had two parts "C" and was missing its required part "E". I emailed the BabyDan support on Sunday afternoon, they replied (by email) at the beginning of the next day (Monday), and by the end of the week (Saturday) the part "E" had been delivered. BabyDan's support was excellent! This is a very well engineered product, with excellent product support, it was well worth the little bit of extra money to get the best solution for our needs! I would highly recommend getting this product!

Very adjustable, sturdy anti-baby gate
Reason for choosing this gate: I needed a safety gate that would fit in a 69cm (approx 29 inch) doorway AND had no fix lower bar to trip over as the doorway is opposite the top of the stairs. Positives: The gate feels sturdy once installed and fits well in the doorway. Non-trip design Nice and tricky to open (but not too complicated for adults!) There is a lot of adjustment possible (for different size doorways, or (like the old house I live in!) if nothing about the doorway is square or true!) Can be fit to open inwards or outwards, from the right or from the left (the latter two, if you're logically brained enough to 'mirror' the instructions) Worth noting: You will need 2 large flat/phillips screw drivers to fix the bolts through. There are a number of grey plastic pieces which are drawn accurately in the instructions but the installer will need a bit of time working out which piece is which as some look very similar to each other at first glance. Don't expect to be able to leave the bits in a random pile and fix this gate at lightning speed frustration free. If I fitted this again I might be tempted to mark the letters on each piece to speed things along later (for example, parts c,d,e and f are all very similar but fit in different places - and l (L) and n, if mixed up, could leave you re-drilling holes!) Be sure whether you want paper template A or B before making holes and screwing in! The gap I was left with under the gate was too big, according to the Mrs. I had to re-drill/screw the fixings lower than the template suggested. It didn't help that our doorway/floor isn't actually level. Double check that the gate is low enough for you(r wife) [work out how the gate sits onto the grey bracket (part 'b'). Don't be afraid of putting the bottom of the template right down to the floor....and a bit. Having done a few flat packs and an Ikea kitchen over the last few years, the instructions were ok - but be patient. At one point I assembled a few plastic bits together (n,o,k) and then had to take them apart again to fix it to the wall.... but hardly the disaster others seem to have described in reviews. Why not 5 stars? I really like this product - it does everything I want it to do. For 5 stars I have to say "wow". If BabyDan had labelled all the parts themselves (a little sticker?) I'd have been that much more impressed.

Fits really well
I think this gate is brilliant. I don’t have a wall either side of the gate and I still want to be able to shut the door so most gates won’t fit. This one can be fitted on the front of the door frame which solves my problem perfectly. The gate is well designed and sturdy when built and can be adapted to fit a wide range of different doors and openings. I’m a design engineer by profession and would guess that this gate has been designed to adapt to as many different layouts as possible. This does mean it has quite a few parts as requires more careful assembly than most stair gates. It took me about an hour to build and you do need to read the instructions carefully (partly because I wanted it to open the other way so I had to do the mirror image of the instructions and I took time to check this would work before drilling anything). That said I thought the instructions were clear and highlighted important details (all pictures but I prefer this, especially compared to the often poorly translated written instructions you find with a lot of products). I can understand why a lot of reviewers say they found it hard to install but if you’re ok at flat pack furniture and you study the pictures carefully you should be fine.

I felt proud of myself after getting gate assembled!
This was a weird experience for me. Firstly, I get a note in the box from the seller, Safetots saying the Baby Dan one I ordered was not in stock so they sent me their own version, made in the same factory, same tooling - no difference. Maybe not, but they could have asked before sending. They are assuming I value their warranty with the same as Baby Dan's. I also don't think Baby Dan (or Amazon) would like that Safetots are selling their white label version instead. But, I needed a stair gate so proceeded to install. First off, there is an overwhelming number of components. I am sure that some of this could be part assembled in the factory, or redesigned to make assembly more straightforward. Not everyone is after the cheapest, and I buy on quality, not price - why make this hard? The manual, as others have said is poor. With different configurations available to add to the complexity, there needs to be some wording in the manual as well as pictures. Its cheaper not to have to translate a manual in every language but not doing just frustrates customers (are we all reviewing the same manual - BabyDan vs Safetots?) The assembly continued and I eventually put the gate together. Then, disaster! The inter screws for the ends had too long screws with it, or at least not enough thread in the female chamber. So I couldn't tighten the plastic ends up enough to secure the shape for my banister. Determined not to send it back, I found some compatible shorter screws in my garage and some washers and made a good job of it. Once assembled, the gate is actually not bad - a little noisy when our baby is asleep - why not rubberise the plastic so it isn't so loud to open and close the gate? But the frame is robust and sturdy and I have confidence in the materials to last - even the one's I supplied :). Would I buy another? Not sure, I now know how to install it so it would not be a voyage into the unknown, but it was a soap opera in microcosm to get the job done.

Fantastic - we purchased 3!!
Really sturdy and feels safe, smart looking, easy to assemble. Very clever how it so flexibility fits together and would work for a variety of opening sizes. Easy mechanism for opening and closing - important when you usually have a baby in arms!! On the slightly more expensive side but I think good value for money as it's just so good!

Absolute life saver, great gate!
This gate is great, it's sturdy, easy to open and close one handed and can be trusted not to move unlike pressure gates. The person who gave the gate a bad review saying it was difficult to assemble and that it would leave holes in the wall clearly did not do any research. Gates that screwed into the wall are much more safe as they do not work loose over time and this gate can fit into most doorways. I originally bought one for the bottom of the stairs and then bought another one for the top of the stairs. I am now about to buy a 3rd for our kitchen doorway. My 21 month old son has already worked out how to open pressure fix gates by lifting it and I now need one he cant open! Great service too and yes it does take a bit of looking at the instruction to install but nothing a bit of thinking can't work out! I dont normally leave reviews but wanted to on this product as didn't want people put off by silly bad and ill-informed reviews.

A Special Place in Hell
There is a special place in Hell for the designer of this stair gate. I am not new to DIY, jobs around the home, or assembly of furniture, but it took me an hour or more to figure out how to put this together. The instructions are awful, the parts are very difficult to put together, and you need 2 screwdrivers tightening in opposite directions with your hands through the bars to get it assembled. God help you if you, like me, get mixed up in all the confusion and hang it the wrong way round. If you do, none of the pieces line up. Oh no, you cant just unscrew your hinges and swap them over, no, you need another 8 holes in your walls, right next to the 8 holes you just made. This assembly needs at least 2 people, a spirit level, 2 Phillips head screw drivers and the hands of a 5 yr old girl to fit through the bars. Do yourself a favour, buy a different gate.

Leider ohne Aufbauanleitung geliefert
Wirklich toller und wertiger Artikel, würde ich jederzeit wiederkaufen, ist allerdings sehr zeitintensiv im Aufbau, wenn eine Anleitung nicht beiliegt und auch im Internet nicht auffindbar.
