How to See It, How to Draw It: The Perspective Workbook: Unique exercises with more than 100 vanishing points to figure out

The Perspective Workbook.
Perspective terrifies the livin` daylights out of some beginners in art; I know it did me, when I was starting out. This workbook is a well-laid out primer that clearly explains things with good examples of some of the challenges most budding artists are likely to encounter initially, together with some more complex visual problems in later chapters. The early chapters deal with the history of perspective and provide a fairly good introduction to what it is and how it works before moving on to one, two and three-point perspective. These are the basics and the book does a good job of explaining this with clear diagrams, location photos and drawings. The more complicated stuff – like curvilinear and multi-point perspective gets the same treatment, but that`s pretty fancy stuff; if you`re leafing through the book, don`t be put off by the later sections as one or two of my students were – an understanding of the basics will enable you to tackle the later projects, should you wish to try them – most artists I know get by on the basics unless they choose to paint and draw architectural subjects. The book is laid out with practical exercises, useful grids that can be photocopied and enlarged and some fold-out pages for the bigger projects. The finished drawings are shown in thumbnail at the back of the book and a helpful glossary is included. The book is a drawing book; it makes no particular reference to colour perspective, though it touches on aerial perspective (atmospheric perspective) but even so, it is a very decent introduction and reference for any student, regardless of their ability level.A useful and really practical guide that will aid understanding and enable the student to gain confidence in the use of perspective. Do use the “look inside” option above for a preview sample of the content.

This is how I see it
A great book nicely presented and good quality. There's a lot of information in here and I for one have benefited from what I have read so far. With so many books on perspective out there and I have owned a lot of them this struck the right balance with me, so if you need to try to understand perspective you won't go far wrong in purchasing this great book.

Excellent book on perspective.
I tried learning about perspective online to add some depth into my drawings. Sure you have to hunt through the many many generous instructions to get to the good stuff.I decided to buy this book based on the reviews and I am so pleased. This book is excellent on my humble opinion. Every single page is so full of instruction and information and I enjoyed spending plenty of time absorbing everything Mr. Brehm had laid out so expressive yet concisely. Each chapter is well explained followed by the workbooks which I think are worth their weight in gold. I am learning so much.

A must have for any Urban sketcher
This book is awesome. The quality of the paper and printing is great. Inside it's a real treasure trove. It helps you understand many types of perspectives for drawing with lots of illustrative examples. At the end of the book it has a workbook with grids so that you can apply what you have learned. One of my favourite illustrators, called Lapin, uses curvilinear perspective and it has a chapter about this, with examples by him and others. Change your perspective and treat yourself to the wonderful book.

A mix bag
Absolutely loved the workbook section at the end, not keen on the large water colour images, enjoyed the smaller examples a lot more, a very good book for beginners.

Good for getting the head around Perspective - nice and clear.I just read the text and studied the pictures and tried it out on a few of my own drawings and it seems to have strengthened them. I may at some stage try the workout sheets that come in the book. For me it did seem to labour each type of perspective a bit too much but some artists would probably benefit for this. Otherwise you can always skip to the next when you get the point.
