Can you use a micro sd hc directly or do you need the adapter

Looking at the card reader there are two slots on the front. One (upper) slot is much narrower than the lower slot. I would imagine that the upper slot is designed for the Micro card without and adaptor. I have never used a Micro Card and therefore can not be 100% sure but feel sure that the narrow slot is about the right size for the micro card.

I have dell latitude and w10. since last update laptop cannot read sd card. i have scandisc ultra ii. will your adaptor solve my problem?
