Wilmas Swedish Strike A Light

Very interesting product with value for money contents and perfect for the traditional bushcrafter or outdoorsman. The use of this equipment is, IMO, something for the skilled user. For anyone else I think I would recommend a wind proof lighter or storm matches kept in a sealed canister. It isn't an everyday piece of kit or 5*.

This 'kit' contains everything you need to have a go at the real, and quite difficult, traditional fire lighting technique of using a 'strike-a-light' steel and flint.The flint is used to strike the steel (or the other way round) to make low temperature sparks. The box contains a steel, flint, dried grass, feathered wood stick and the wonder tinder, amadou, made from an inner layer of the Horse Shoe fungus. This ancient (pre-historic) tinder can catch a low temperature spark and start to smoulder. When the smouldering tinder is added to a ball of dried grass and carefully blown upon it can catch fire and the flames used to light up the feathered wood stick.Oh what our ancestors had to do to light a candle or cook a meal!One more thing, I have actually been able to light fires using this kit - a real sense of achievement.

This is a great set containing all you need to have a go at starting a fire with flint and steel, comes in a nice box with a couple of cards, would be a good gift for anyone who has an interest in the outdoors.Takes some practice, not as easy to do as with a modern ferro rod, but it is great when you finally get it.

exelent little set! lots of flint and tinder. metal striker is really good, best i have used. lots of amadou tinder, and it is a very good quality! dry grass is more of a novelty as it is only enough to get one fire going. rest of material will last for many fires and as long as you have som flint the striker will last a life time.

I’ve had mine for 6 years now this kit is far superior to all the others out there, traditional Swedish set up with a quality striker. Recommend all day long.

Generally a very good kit with all that you need for flint and steel fire lighting. The steel I received works very well but unfortunately it is a more modern design, not the ancient rams horn style shown in the picture. Disappointing, so 3 stars rather than 5.
