This PureMate PM520 features an HEPA / carbon filter combination; an ultra-violet light, and an Ioniser (either or both can be switched off); a 5-speed manually controlled fan); a 1-8 hour timer (optional), and a filter replacement alert light.The lowest and quietest setting for the fan speed is level 1. This can be increased up to level 5. Level 1 is very quiet but not totally silent. The air being pushed through the front grill sounds like a light breeze. However, at that level it's sufficiently quiet to allow uninterrupted sleep for most people.When the HEPA / carbon filter combination is used without the Ioniser and ultra-violet (UV-C) light, only the top control panel illuminates with blue LEDs and a red power light. However, when the UV-C light is switched on, a blue LED strip illuminates just below the front and sides of the top silver trim. Additionally, the ultra-violet light glows through the front grill. This produces a blue night-light effect in a darkened room.The PureMate PM520 can be operated 24/7, or only as required. I personally would not use either the UV-C light or the Ioniser on a continual basis, However, either or both of these features can be turned off while leaving the HEPA and carbon filter units fully operational. HEPA and activated carbon filters provide the most efficient and effective combination for normal household air purification.I chose the PureMate PM520 (the 28" model) rather than the smaller PM510 (22" model). Most of the internal doors in my flat need to be left slightly open to permit the efficient operation of a dehumidifier, located in the hallway. Therefore, I chose an air purifier that is capable of covering a larger area than a single room.Since I've got a large and powerful cat in the house, I've placed the PureMate between two pieces of heavy furniture, without obstructing the airflow back or front. This ensures that the unit can't be knocked over on its side.I'm very pleased with this air purifier. It's more compact yet more powerful than my previous brand. The PureMate also freshens the room faster and more effectively than did my last model; and at lower, quieter fan speeds. Well worth considering if you don't want your sleep disturbed by an automatic fan speed model!

I bought this back in 2016 from Amazon. I have asthma and react to dust quite a bit.My mum said I should get an air purifier and this one looked to be the one for me.It it quite loud but it also does a good job too. That said, it has 5 settings and setting 1 is pretty much silent(ish), with setting 5 the loudest, but on that setting you are potentially leaving it on when you go out to sort the room out, so shouldn't be one to notice it.I have replaced the filter once, and that didn't cost too much, easy to refit by opening the rear and swapping them over.When I recently moved house, the room I moved into had carpet and it gave me a tickly cough, almost instantly when I entered the room.Fortuantely I still had use of my old room where I could sleep, and I left the fan on for a day and it sorted that issue out and now I can live here with no problems.Slight niggles:The 'V' blue light is very bright, as is the on red button, so I have placed black gaffer tape over, and it is now just a dull light.Ideally the power cord could be a little longer, but then you can just use an extension lead.All-in-all, I'm very happy.

After sneezing almost nonstop through the first three months of this year I was getting desperate. First I bought a humidifier which helped a little bit. Then I decided on a purifier and chose this one. Now I run them both on low mostly, and I've barely sneezed for the last three months. This is what I call a result!The Puremate is quiet enough to run overnight on the lowest speed. It not only cleans the air but removes smells also. (I can now detect kitchen smells and other odours from elsewhere in the house when I step out of the "clean room".) Also the sneezing can return in other rooms, presumably from pollen and cat dust. I will probably buy another unit for the kitchen.The only slight downside was the UVC light, which stopped working after 7 weeks. Puremate immediately sent a replacement, but it only lasted one week. HOWEVER, this hasn't made any obvious difference to the function. I'm still not sneezing, so basically I don't care.Does everything it claims, even without the ultra violet.

I bought this to reduce the contaminants from my wood burner and to, hopefully, reduce the itchy eyes and sneezing that I suffer from with seasonal allergies. I have run the machine for a week now and definitely notice the difference already. The air feels cleaner with none of the toxic ozone smell associated with some ionizers and any smoke from the stove is quickly neutralized. My eyes no longer itch in the evenings and I feel generally better. At night time I move the unit into the bedroom and run it on the quietist setting which does not interfere with sleep. No more post nasal drip at night and a generally better nights sleep. I cover the display on the top as it is far too bright to have on at night and there is no way of turning it off (please note PureMate!). So far I have not used the UV light. I will now be buying the smaller unit for the bedroom. Highly recommend for any allergy sufferers.

All arrived in good condition in a timely manner. We bought the unit to remove the smell of spilt diesel fuel.Unfortunately, so far it is only contributing to more of an odour. Having spoken to the customer support team they have informed us that this sometime happens for the first couple of days operation. Lets hope it subsides because it is quite strong.

The room feels really nice and fresh after a couple of hours with this on. A nice layer of dust falls after using the de-ioniser, which is what I expect to happen. All in all a fantastic piece of equipment, especially for the price.
