One of the Best Primarch Novels
This lands in my top 3 of the current 16 released novels. The Alpharius and Curze novels round out the three. This did a great job of demonstrating Dorn's personality and motivation. Dorn isn't one of my favorite Primarchs, definitely bottom half, and I'm not an Imperial Fist fan so I'm not predisposed towards this novel. You get a great look at an interaction between 4 Primarchs that's not wasted. It shows clashing personalities, adds to the lore by showcasing the unique abilities of the different legions approach to tactics, and we can see some nascent character flaws. Small part but it's used to the fullest. The battles are decent, but if you're after a non-stop action novel that you get in many 40k novels this won't scratch THAT itch. You get a deeper look at Navigators that's interesting. You get some Sigismund, a fan favorite. BUT the thing you get mostly is a good in depth look at Dorn and exactly why he was tapped to defend Terra over every other Primarch. And this is what I want from a Primarch novel. The Primarch. Not necessarily anything new but maybe a deeper understanding. Highly recommend it.

Gotta love Warhammer 40k and the primarchs.
Haven't read it yet. But as a huge 40k fan and collector. I had to have all the primarch novels.

Decent story
Product received on Jan 12, 2024A decent book that shows Rogal Dorn's loyalty towards the emperor and the Imperium of man.Would've given a 5 star if it weren't for the scratches on the logo

short but interesting story
A short look at Royal Dorn and his Fists. No great revelations but another chapter of the Great Crusade to look at!

Dorn Done Dirty
The book is very fun, it's always nice to see Rogal Dorn in action.Sadly, the novella chose an extremely ambitious campaign to cover. Four Primarchs, a sector wide war, and all has to be resolved in the length of a novella. This honestly should have been a duology, with an initial novel covering the four legions present and the initial stages of the war, and the second one covering the end of the war.Rogal Dorn's novella should have given us a better look into the man than this. More of his childhood, more of his initial stages as a general, more of him discovering the Phalanx. The book is fun, but disappointing in the choice of topic and execution of it, cutting multiple times away from the action to then simply tell us what happened in a few simple sentences. Aside from Sigismund and to a lesser extend Rann, the characters only exist to drive the plot forwards, even Dorn himself only exists for this purpose. In his own novella, Dorn is only a force of nature to push the plot forwards and help the "good guys" win.Unless you're an Imperial Fist superfan, you might wanna skip this one.

Decent, but lacking substance
as a fan of the Imperial Fists and Rogal Dorn I was expecting a killer epic tale, but it felt short, the story is here and there, it lacks a consistent pace and it doesn't offer much insight regarding the Primarch's life, only focusing on another crusade mission conquering space only to end abruptly, it could have explored a lot more of Dorn's life and experiences pre Imperium, but it doesn't. A good read, yeah, just lacking a punch and epicness.

if you’re going to write a primarch book…..
A very dull and boring take on the early crusade. I am not sure why I keep reading the primarchs books. They should be about their early lives before the emperor finds them. Then we the readers gain insight into who they were. But no…..another great crusade one off that makes it look like the chapter may loose to many of its forces and be beaten back only to have the primarch out smart the enemy and take the field in an epic end of book battle. This is not worth your effort. Very boring and at times, I almost just put it down. Nothing about the imperial fists and their amazing defense tactics. This book could not make up its mind which direction it wanted to go which ultimately led to its failure. This has been one of my least favorite warhammer books so far. Gav, I award you NO points and may the emperor have mercy on your soul.
