Which would be best to start working ableton with, the akai pro apc40mkii or novation launchpad pro?

For me it is the layout of the Akai that is the real plus, it looks very much like what you get on the screen. Works straight out of the box and is fully interactive with Ableton without any mapping. I haven't used a Lanchpad, but assume this offers similar functions and practical interaction with the software, but the look is more drumpads than an 'actual' interface. Of course the Novation does utilise a similar layout to the Push2, which I'd buy if had the cash, so I'm not sure where that leaves us, but if you want an intuitive and interactive work station from the off, this is very good. Hasn't quite replaced the need for a mouse, but not far from it.

Are the faders motorised?

Hello, Akai support here! The faders are all manual.

Has anybody used this with logic pro x? if so what are your thoughts?

Never used it with Logic. It would be a cool remote control for most channel strip functions and bypassing insert effects. It might be good with the new Logic update that brings in Ableton style performance page to trigger clips.
