Scarecrow [DVD]

Worzel Gummidge's uncle that no-one talks about
Pretty decent horror, good special effects in the killings and the scarecrow itself. The story is the usual style, group of kids out in the middle of nowhere get stalked by a monster, aka the scarecrow. It gets straight into it from the very first part of the film, and from what I've seen in horror films, avoid corn fields at any cost.Strange thing is, as they fight for a car etc, they seem to forget that someone drove up in one earlier, but they ignore that and battle for a set of keys for one that just drove up.Still, I suppose thats entertainment. Also, good to see that when someone goes missing, to actually call their name out whilst weilding an axe. Maybe the actor has seen many films where they think they survived to get an axe in the gut.

The creature effects aren't bad, but everything else is.
This movie is discount every horror movie you've ever seen. All the actors are discount version of more famous actors and it really shows, not one of them could do an even half way decent job, but that's what you get for hiring look-a-likes off of graigs list. The plot is the same, discount creepy house, people go there and get picked off just like every other horror movie. Does it feel like a long movie, the running time is less than 90 minutes, but the more you watch the longer it seems to get, until the end when it just gives up. That's the weirdest part really, the movie just cuts to credits immediately after the climax (I'm being kind calling it that). It feels like there was some more movie that got cut for some reason. My guess is that they run out of budget after spending it all on the creature effects, which are actually decent, over used, but decent. This movie gets one star for the creature effects and once for being a thing that exists.

i would give it 3.5 out of 5 if that was an option....
pretty formulaic horror flick with lots of running around in tall corn fields from pretty girls and floppy fringed boys. Lots and lots of screaming. Kinda goes on a bit but all films like. this do....stupid decisions, thinking they're safe and then they're not....not finishing off the job so it comes back one more time...or maybe two more times....the monster is pretty good. Less a scarecrow more like the twiggy things in the Swampthing series...

Formula plot saved by good acting and effects.
I bought this not expecting anything original but based on the cast at least well made and I wasn't disappointed on either point. It's the usual story of young people in peril ignoring an old legend/curse then getting picked off one by one. Nothing new there at all. On the plus side the acting was all good (A huge thing when so many b grade horrors look like they found the actors in the street) the scarecrow is well done as are all the effects, and no found footage camera work here. All in all you won't be amazed but you won't be annoyed or too disappointed either. Shows you don't need to be original or big budget as long as you pay for real actors.

good start bad ending
Ok I had high hopes for this movie, I haven't watched a horror about scarecrows before. It started very promising, suspense well set up and it maintained the level, until about an hour in. Then it all fell apart when everyone was being killed off and the ending seemed hurried and kind of didn't make sense. Apparently the legend goes that the scarecrow can't be killed, he has to be buried, so the explosion at the end means that he didn't die. I like Lacey Chabert, she was good in lost in space, but I don't think she is strong enough in this role here as leading lady and I didn't care one way or another by the end if the scarecrow got her or not. Watch it for the beginning but be prepared for it to lose momentum.

The funny thing is
I cannot unseen this tragic effort of a so called "film" It is a complete disgrace and I ended up fast forwarding the last 30 minutes as I could take no more! I should have known from the start its was tripe. The funny thing is, the scarecrowe in the field never actually moves! It is the same CGI as used in the Mummy when he finally decides to appear. For some reason dragging teenagers 20 yards round a corn field. A corn field that looks well maintained to say no one has been there for years. The cast are abysmal. The teachers being roughly the same age as the students, equally 25 years old. They have received some kind of detention for a reason outlined about facebook that didnt make sense. What finer way to spend detention that taking all of them on a field trip! The teacher then doubles up as a bus driver (lucky) and demands all of the students mobiles (of course) There is one girl who is on the bus that runs off never to be seen again! You have to use your imagination on that one. The lead actress somehow drives up and meets the gang at her own farm! It needs 8 people to dismantle this thing, which no one ever draws attention to the fact it has a human skull! We by pass that part. The scarecrowe can not only fly and climb up walls, it also has the ability to tunnel underground and appear like vines sprouting up through the ground! We dont actually see anyone get killed, just being picked up by the head! I got to the stage where they visited the house in the middle of nowhere, the car doesnt start either by the way, from this random bloke that nothing to do with anything that also rocks up at this remote farm. The owner of this house misses the knocking and instead chooses to sit at the back of his house with the shotgun. Id had enough. The only bright spot is Lacey Chamberts chest in the white top. This film is right up there with Jack Frost (not the one with Michael Keaton, the horror) as being garbage! I can assure you, my eyes bled more than than the opening girls leg! I will not inflict this rubbish on anyone and throw it straight in the bin. 1 hour of my life I wont be getting back.

Beware no running time on any cover or disc and no hoh sdh subtitles. Starts off okay, drags considering short run time
I bought this coz I'm a horror fan. The film is actually not bad. But it's terribly unscary. Also the beefing seemed unnecessarily dragged out. At only 82 minutes the film seemed to last an eternity. But the gore is always welcome and here it's fairly gory. I liked the screaming. There was A LOT of screaming. The scarecrow itself wasn't as scary as Batman Begins scarecrow. Robin Dunne was very easy on the eye. YUM! Lacey Chabert is wonderful as the final girl. Predictable? Yes. Unoriginal? Check. But fun? Tonnes.
