could be better
the music bass is missing, must use an equalizer to correct it. the only way to turn it off is from the plug, as the off state just makes it turn non-stop.

Nice item. Worth the Money, Great for playing your Vinyl !!!!
Good piece of Kit, looks Nice, only fault I could find is that when it's on Auto stop the turntable cuts off without finishing the record!!! But when when you switch off auto stop it plays the whole record, but the turntable keeps running!!! Play it through my Hifi, Sounds Great, takes me back to the Great days of Music. Well worth the Money. Thanks !!!!

Works just great
Connects instantly to Linux (of course), with Audacity sound-through enabled on pause/record... good to come across such a minimal just-right design that is so cool... features: none, it just works perfectly

Overall good.. but a couple of bad points!
Overall its not bad for the money and a lot better than most of the "suitcase" type players for around the same price. The record player is lightweight but solidly built, doesnt bounce when you press down on the turnrable like the Bush record players for example. Lovely design and the colour is great. The turntable has a built in slipmat which is a nice touch and the clip on the stylus is nice and tight. In terms of sound quality, no built in speakers so you'll need an external set. But the player DOES have a built in pre-amp so you won't need any separate amp to run speakers. I actually don't mind not having speakers because these built in speakers are usually terrible! Good sound quality for the price but let's face it its not for audiophiles, go spend minimum £200 if you want to get serious! that aside it's a good starter player and sounds a lot better than Crossley or similar. 2 major issues for me however: 1. No headphone jack, can't plug in headphones unless you do buy a separate amp to run speakers. Really annoying as pretty much all other players at this price can take headphones! 2. No power button. Always "on" when plugged in. Doesn't make any sound but you can feel the electrical current running through the stylus when you rub the metal part of the arm. How hard would it have been to include a little on/off button? I have to unplug at the mains when not in use as it just bugs me thinkjng I'm wasting electricity. Would have been a 4 star review if it wasn't for the above. But for some I know the pros will out weigh the cons and if you can look past the 2 cons above its probably worth the money.

Thin and tinny - avoid and buy a £5 second hand deck instead
I bought this to replace an old Bush MTT1 player which I recently dug out of the loft. I found it when tidying up and bought some new vinyls to listen to, loved it, and thought I’d upgrade for a nicer looking and hopefully better quality deck (the Bush skips terribly and needs a 2p to hold the tone arm down). However, the sound from this Ion Compact is awful. It is tinny and thin, and the poor quality is abundantly clear when comparing to the Bush. Make no mistake - the Bush is also a poor quality deck and you can pick one up for £5 second hand. But the difference is stark. The sound from the Ion is unenjoyable and thin - the sound from a £5 second hand 20 year old Bush is warm and punchy and made me reconnect with vinyl records. I have owned this for less than an hour, but will be complaining and returning immediately.
