A real beauty
Guitar arrived well packaged and I just could not wait to get it out of the box. It arrived at work and I could not resist but to open it and to show my colleagues and they all went WOW. In my opinion this guitar is really beautiful. The guitar has a eSonic 2 preamp with a built-in tuner and the tuner is excellent with the guitar being tuned and ready to play in very little time and the tuning was accurate. The acoustic tone is very warm and relaxing with no abnormal sounds, only clear and crisp melodies. The guitar is beautifully made and the joints are solid. The tuning heads are Grover (which are real quality heads) and these are formed in a yellow metal that naturally compliment the head stock which then flows seemlessly into the fret board with the classic inlays which in turn glides into the guitar body. The top of the fret board has fret dots so you can easily find your way up and down the fret as you play. I have yet to play this guitar through an amp but I have no doubt that this beauty will live up to its name time and time again. The guitar has a lifetime limited warranty and the eSonice2 preamp has a 5 year unlimited warranty. The guitar and the preamp warranty have to be registered separartely. It is also worth noting that the Grover tuning heads have a lifetime warranty. I was considering a higher end guitar but now I have this one, well it certainly meets and exceeds my requirements and at a fraction of the price The guitar does not come with a gig bag but hey this baby deserves to be kept out on display or transported in a hard shellcase as it deserves respect. In fact I have enjoyed playing it so much I have had trouble putting it down to write this review. Overall rating - Well I am not bothered about the lack of a free gig bag (save that one for the cheaper guitars out there) I just love the quality that this guitar offers and I am sure you will too.

What a beautiful quality guitar!
What a fantastic guitar. Every time my son takes it out of the case he's greeted with 'wow's ' and gasps. It really is beautiful. It sounds amazing bright and it is very responsive and easy to get a good tone out of it. I read lots of reviews about this guitar and I can say they were all right! So happy with this - my son loves playing it. It's really beautifully made and finished too!!

Good value for money
IT's a nice and good looking guitar, solid and seems well built for the price. The unplugged sound is not good, but on an Amp it's where it shines - I use it on an Ampeg bass amp and the sound is full and rich.

I was delighted with this guitar
I was delighted with this guitar. It has a wonderful tone played acoustically and has plenty of volume. Played through amp and speakers it is even better. Unfortunately, the instrument I received exhibited a problem with its electronics. Something is causing the batteries to drain rapidly. Within a couple of hours when only using the electrics for checking the tuning, which by the way is an excellent feature if working correctly, the red warning light came on indicating that the batteries were low and needed replacing. I informed Amazon of this fault, and they agreed to replace the instrument, but for reasons of my own, I have decided to keep it as I rarely play it through amps and am prepared to put up with the battery drain if I do use it, carrying spare batteries for such occasions.

Excellent guitar!
Over the years I have played a lot of electric and acoustic guitars; some good and some not so good, and of them all this one I rate as one of the very best; which makes it the best acoustic I have. It not only looks excellent but plays and sounds brilliant, with such a large variety of sounds. From ballad and blues to rock n' roll sound (if you can truly play anything that sounds like that on an acoustic). It is a really, really good guitar in both sound and quality.

Very Disappointing
I have tried three of these and every one had issues with the electronics. Quite plainly; the pickup and the preamp sucks in these. One had a faulty pickup, the others sounded way too boomy and distorted, which rendered the guitars unusable. After looking on Epiphone threads, I found that this is a well known and common problem. It's surprising that Epiphone would allow this to continue without addressing the matter. I should have known this would be the case. I had previously purchased an Epi AJ with a Shadow preamp/pickup, and I had to change it out for something that sounded good. In this case I purchased a cheap preamp/piezo + condenser mic from China, and amazingly it worked great. I still have that guitar and it sounds fine now, but that one was boomy and unusable as well. Anyway, there are much better guitars available that have much better elctronics, if that is what you need. Any decent acoustic with a Fishman system would be far better than one of these.

Wonderful Guitar
I already have this model in Sunburst Tobacco ,but simply had to get the black model too . How do they make such an excellent guitars for the price ? I have a large collection of Fenders , Gibson's and even a Hand crafted Waghorn (Waghorn guitars Bristol) , but for the price you won't get a better guitar than this . Beautifully made , great tone , nice to play (no set up required ) I regularly gig both guitars or use them as a standby on stage . Can't recommend these guitars enough !

however it has an electrical fault rendering one of the jack sockets completely useless.. not sure yet what the problem is
Stunning guitar, however it has an electrical fault rendering one of the jack sockets completely useless.. not sure yet what the problem is.. fortunately it has 2 sockets as it has 2 pick-ups, so will use the other one for now until I get it fixed, couldn't be bothered to mess about sending it back. little bit disappointed... but lovely looking instrument.also the G string keeps breaking on it too... not sure why.. never had that happen on any of my other guitars. will look into that issue.

Initially I thought this guitar was somewhat quiet until I played it a second time. It has a rich, warm sound that doesn't have that jingly-bag-of-coins sound every time you hit a D chord (aka high strings area). The neck has quick action & feels similar to an Electric Guitar. Is nice to be able to add effects now to a real acoustic and amplify my sound, which you can easily notice even 5 feet from your amp. The nicest feature I enjoy of this guitar is the tuner. It's as easy as turning on, checking whether your string is too high or low, then pushing the button again to turn it off. The battery will last forever also b/c that's the only time it's used. The 3 different tone settings don't use battery power & can help you with any feedback from your amp, while modifying your tone. My biggest relief is that this guitar still has a decently loud sound despite it's cut-out near the neck & that the high string action doesn't sound changy. A non-electric version of this guitar (EJ-200) has no cut out and plays louder, but this one still compares since the sound is only slightly lower and you get a tuner/tone controls & can plug it into an amp. Pay attention to the bridge too. If you're looking for that EJ-200 and see that the bridge doesn't have the mustache design, it's not the same or as good. This guitar's mustache bridge with faux-bone inlays & pop-out string pegs add to this guitar's authenticity to it's sister Gibson J-200 guitar. It's a pain in the wallet to knock out $400 for this, but I'll do it for the guitar I want that will be with me for life. It was also shipped securely and the guitar was tied down nicely. Save the Epiphone box if you don't have a jumbo case & rest assured that your guitar will get to you safely. Buy this guitar!

Epiphone EJ-200SCE Natural To make a long story short, I ordered from Amazon two Epiphone EJ-200SCE guitars, Color: one Natural, one Black and the Hummingbird Ephiphone. My wife liked the black one. I liked the natural one. We decided to compare the two side by side, and sent for both of them. Later, my wife changed her mind and liked the way the natural looked and sounded. I had just listened to the Andertons review "What ones are the best, the ten times more expensive J 200 Gibson or the ten times more expensive Hummingbird Gibson comparing to the similar Epiphone EJ-200SCE and the Hummingbird Epiphone. By using a set of earphones I listened to the Andertons review and concluded that Gibson Hummingbird sounded better and J-200 Gibson sounded a teeny-bit better with a teeny-bit better bass than the EJ-200SCE Epiphone but the Epiphone had the disadvantage of having a cut-away, even though in one way it was an advantage, having the cut-away made the EJ-200SCE Epiphone a more versatile guitar, making it easier to make more moves higher upon the neck; getting higher on the neck allows the guitar player to have a wider varity of moves. Thus, the EJ-200SCE Epiphone was a more complete guitar, yet costing thousands less. Also, it looked to me like the Gibson Hummingbird was larger than Epiphone Hummingbird cheating the Epiphone Hummingbird out of the lower tones. I got the boxes delivered two days later and tuned guitars up. The black EJ-200SCE had less bass and did not fret as well as the Natural one. I compared the Hummingbird to my Yamaha FGX730SC. The FGX was larger and looked about the same size as the Gibson Hummingbird the Andertons played on their review. The Yamaha blew the Ephiphone Hummingbird away and only cost $130 more. I sent the black 200 and the Hummingbird back to Amazon. Amazon actually carries these guitars and this makes all the difference in the world to its customers. The UPS came to my house and picked them up at no cost. I looked on my computer and they immediately gave me a refund without examining the guitars. It does not work that way for 3rd party and not fulfilled by Amazon. You wait and you wait and you wait until they give you back your money to your credit card and then everything better be exactly like you received it or they will deduct 15% for restocking fee from your card. Be careful. This is the list of guitars that I have purchased in the last four months for my bucket list, mostly from Amazon, in chronological order. 1. Yamaha, acoustic FG830 new (no pre-amp), came with case, excellent+++ 2. Washburn acoustic WCG66SCE, new, sold by Amazon (a cut-away) Spalted Maple back and sides and cedar top, did not come with the case, best of the comfort guitars pre-amp, tuner, excellent.+++ This guitar is a beauty. I have never seen a more beautiful guitar.3. Yamaha acoustic FGX730SC new, sold by Amazon pre-amp, tuner, a cut-away, did not come with case excellent. +++. Sold out and they are hard to find. Yamaha does not make them anymore and is now selling the 800 series that are excellent guitars with the scalloped braces. 4. Takamine CM92SCE, (Not sure about the letters only the number 92, acoustic, cutaway, small body, pre-amp, tuner, good but tinny when unplugged, Came with the case, I bought it from Gear Tree, a 3rd party Amazon sale; I sent it back, it would be good to play in a heavy metal rock band and substitute for Epiphone Pro Les Paul or Gibson Les Paul (but not sure about that) 5. Takamine, acoustic, EG523CDX, Small Jumbo, Honeyburst, excellent, ebay, came with roughed up case. I replaced it with a jumbo takamine case. This guitar also is beautiful and I kept it. 6. Epiphone jumbo acoustic, EJ-200SCE Natural, I rated it excellent, A beautiful guitar, & I kept it. Epiphone acoustic EJ-200SCE, black I rated it very good, but sent it back. I think the black paint slowed down the resonance and the volume that was coming out of the sound hole. Ephiphone hummingbird, I rated it good very nice to look at, but sent it back. My advice to anyone wanting to start out with one or two guitars, take your money and go buy a Yamaha 800 series that took the place of the 700's. You will never go wrong buying a Yamee! Get one with a cut-away, pre-amp, with tuner, and equilizer. Add a Fender amplifier as small as you can get amplifier. I think that Gibson should draw up their plans to make quality China guitars and should start writing their names on their China guitars and be proud of the name Gibson like Yahama is proud of their name. Gibson claims that Epiphones made in Indonesia and China are sent to the Gibson USA factory first and a Gibson Luthier adjusts the guitars to specifications before it is sent out to Amazon and its customers. I think Yamaha has all of their guitars made in China and they write Yamaha on all of them. The Chinese have been making these Yamaha's for over 30 years and have acquired the knowledge and workmanship as master craftsmen and Yamaha Japan has supplied them with the tools, the machines, and the training to make first rate guitars if not the best guitars in the world today. Martin and Gibson are mostly their contenders, but we pay less a price to buy the Martins that are made in Mexico and more for the ones that are made in the USA. The best sound wise that I have heard from customers is the D-18, the most expensive is the D-45 selling at $9500. Gibson USA that are made in the USA are running in at 3 to 6,000 dollars. The people in the US have to take out a second Morgage on their house to purchase one of them made in the USA. They're good, and expensive! As far as Yamaha is concerned, I think, all of their guitars are first rate and anything else that has Yamaha written on them are excellent including their pianos and keyboards. Martin has some of their guitars made in Mexico 40 miles from the California border, They also have their main factory that is built in California forty miles from the Mexico factory. They can easily exchange machines and technology. They are quality guitars and Martin is proud enough of them to write their name on them. 7. Next, I bought the FGX800C Yamaha, acoustic sandburst, Amazon claims it does not have a tuner (I think it is a misprint) and I was surprised when I saw it on mine, and it has a pre-amp and has scalloped bracings and this guitar is one of the 800's that has taken the place of the 700's that did not scallop their bracings, but now do. How do I compare the 800 to the 730. They are both excellent +++ they're the both the same but the 800's are a little bit louder unplugged ( I am still trying to make up my mind whether I like the scallops or not. It is like the name says the wood is scalloped out in the middle of their braces, making the guitar louder, but just as strong if done right. Guitar makers have been scalloping their braces for ages, some do a good job, others don't. It is a very touchy business and now Yamaha after many years of planning and trial and error have joined the ranks of the scalloped guitars and I think, probably, the customers are better for it. 8.Taylor, 214eDLX acoustic, natural, excellent +++ I bought it from Amazon and I kept it. It is a very bright guitar and it has a pre-amp. I have a hard time putting it down once I pick it up. It does not have a tuner. 10. Martin DRS2 is made in Mexico, acoustic, excellent +++ I kept it. It is another one of my guitars that once I pick it up I have a hard time putting it down. It has a little more bassy sound than the Taylor and each guitar has a sound of its own. 11. The last guitar I bought was the Blueridge BR-180. I bought it from Amazon and Blueridge claims that it is made from an exact copy of the Martin D-45. Some owners that have bought them swear that the Blueridge BR-180 has a better sound than the $9500 D-45, and fret and play as good. I have never played the Martin D-45, but I received this from Amazon with a case for $1570. This is the most beautifully decorated guitar that I own and this guitar has the most craftsmanship built into it that I own. I think that the BR-160 might sound a little brighter while listening to both of the guitars on the Internet. Reverb is selling a new one with a hard case for $1100 and something. I missed out on that one. This guitar was given my highest rating of Excellent ++++. Yep, the Blue Ridge Guitars are made in China! My favorite guitar to play and frets the easiest and rings like a bell when played and without the amplifier is the Epiphone EJ-200SCE Natural with a solid spruce top. In other words I play and reach for it the most. I am not sure whether the back and sides are laminated or not. I just now went back in Amazon for its description and could not find anywhere the word laminated as they described its back and sides. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are not laminated, but if they are this guitar sells for $429 and Gibson should do what they used to do when they had factories in Japan and Korea. On the guitar head they wrote "Epiphone made by Gibson." This is an excellent guitar. Gibson should be proud enough of it to put their name on it. But I am talking about the Natural one. I did not have good luck with the black one. I have never played the Heritage Sunburst. If you use an amplifer you can raise the bass with the pre-amp equilizer and have the same sound or better sound than the J-200 Gibson that costs over $4000, by just raising the volume. I use the smallest of the Fender amplifiers. It works well for me, but I am not big on amplifiers. I am 74 years old and I can easily pick this amplifier up. P.S. You might ask yourself why most all cut-away guitars have a pre-amp, equalizer, and tuner? It is because when you cut part of the guitar away to make more room for a longer neck and frets, you have more neck to play on, you are losing resonance and volume inside the guitar and you have less volume in the sound box so less sound is coming out of the sound hole. This takes away the volume of your guitar. Most cut-aways have pre-amps, to gain back the volume that one has lost, and with the amplfier the guitar player can add a little more volume. It is nice to hook up your guitar's pre-amp to an amplfier. Adjust the equalizer for more bass Turn up the volume knob for more volume, and then as easy as pie you reach down and push the button on the tuner and then adjust the strings where they are in perfect tune. When a guitar has been tuned by a tuner it always sounds better than tuning it by ear and I have been tuning them by ear since the age of nine and no, you cannot do it as well by ear. This is the way of the future. Stay young and do not stop practicing on your guitar. Your fingers will get tough if you play everyday. Keep playing that awesome guitar. Thanks for listening. Rick Just this week I sent the Blue ridge BR-180 back. I ordered the Blue ridge BR-141a. I have just received the BR-141a and will let you know the outcome.
