These sturdy mic's are designed to be handheld so just come with cable. To use them on a desktop to will need a desktop base and mic clip as with putting it on a tripod you will need clip and tripod to use it in this way.

Is this a good mic for a noob to start with? And does it need phantom power?

Its a great starter mike, its not top of the range, i use mine for live backing vocals and it does the job well but not recommended for studio work....does not need phantom power, just plug into an amp and its fine..hope this helps

What else should I buy with this mic so that I can connect it to my computer ?

This excellent microphone comes with a 4.5m cable with an XLR connector at the microphone end and a 1/4" (6.3mm) mono jack plug at the other end, specific to this microphone. This would connect directly to some equipment like mixing decks and cassette tape decks (I still have one) Computers and other recording devices eg MiniDisc recorders all have sockets for 3.5mm stereo plugs. You will need an adapter that will accept the 6.3mm mono plug and output to 3.5mm stereo. Of course the received signal will not be stereo - it will be 2 mono channels in parallel. You could use a mono to mono adapter, but a 3.5mm mono plug into your computer will not have any signal into the R channel which may give rise to spurious low level background noise.
