Camped 7 days in Maine, rained 3
Little background- I'm a woman- tall, thin, forties, kayaker, camp-savvy, photo-junkie.Tent cot arrived well-packaged, (NOT "discretely", if you were considering this for a gift- it's just in a retail-type box, big pictures, etcetera), clear, simple instructions. Had it set-up outside in under five minutes, without the flyer. I got the "oversize" (XL twin) so I'd have room for a camera bag at my feet and it's really roomy. My sister and niece are both claustrophobic and said they wouldn't want to try it with the flaps closed (instead of screens only), but it feels bigger than it looks from outside, and I didn't have any problem with it. I'm about 5'9" & with a 2-inch pad inside, my head touched when I sat upright in the middle, but I had plenty of room to prop up and read, and to change clothes, etcetera. I also had room for my big pro-style camera bag at my feet and books above my pillow, plus a gallon jug of a water to one side.Other reviewers said they had condensation problems with the rain fly on but, camping lakeside in Maine, where it poured, I had none. If you leave the end flaps rolled up when you put the rain fly on , the built-in awnings provide ventilation and cover right through the screens. I think you can get a mesh hammock for underneath, but I don't see the point- my rain boots stayed dry without it.I've been camping for years and this tent is an excellent design. The overhead pocket-flaps at the ends face toward the windows, making it easy to reach up for flashlight, lipbalm, etc. The rain fly goes on fast and stays put. One of the straps that holds the cot open doubles to hold it closed after you fold it up. The built-in pad works perfectly protecting you from the bars underneath- I couldn't feel them at all. I did two nights without an additional pad, but it wasn't soft or especially comfortable, and it was colder that way, so bring a pad. I like that you can climb out on either side unless the rain fly is on.The carry bag is sturdy, which is great, because the darned thing is heavy. It's definitely for car-camping. With half the rear seat lying flat, it fit standing up against the left side windows in my 2007 Rav 4, leaving plenty of space for other gear. This would be a great option for teens wanting out of their parents or siblings tent. My young adult sons all loved it.My ONLY criticisms are very minor:1- A couple of lower loops or pockets for water bottles, please- I'm an American- cup-holders are my birthright!2- Eyelets at the lower corners of the rain-fly's front door-flap would make it double as the perfect door awning. (Next time I'll take binder clips to use for this.)3- The two bar-and-toggle clasps that hold up the longer-side door and screen flaps are a bit too far apart- if you don't roll the flaps precisely, part unrolls and slips out.None of the above issues really bothered me, though. Overall, I love this tent- especially NOT worrying about the bottom leaking or being in a hollow and sliding to one end. It's roomy, comfortable, warm, and dry- all you could ask!

Great product - well made - easy setup - great shelter
The review by Bruce Anderson is very complete and I concur with the majority of his observations, but I would like to add a few of my own.I bought this product when a friend of mine and I were planning a trip to Yellowstone. My situation is a little unique in the fact that only my left hand is functional and my right leg is weak. So, I needed a tent that I could set up with one hand and that was big enough to use a cot, because getting off the ground is very difficult for me. This tent met both of those requirements. This tent is extremely well-made as is its carrying case. I'm able to remove the tent from the case and set it up in just a few minutes using my one hand. Taking the tent down and putting it back in the case is just as easy. This tent is extremely well ventilated with screened in windows on all sides and all windows can be opened for access to the cot and all windows have zippered doors. All the zippers are of extremely high quality and can be easily opened and closed with just one hand. The doors/windows flaps are held open by rolling them up and securing them with a toggle button that is passed through a loop on the backside of the doors/windows. To me this is rather cumbersome, especially if you try to do it like I have to,with one hand. Also, the toggle button is difficult to undo quickly i.e. starting to rain. A simple solution that I found is using cheap spring-loaded hair clips. If it starts to rain, I simply squeeze/remove the hairclip which can be done from inside the tent and the door/window unrolls into place. If I happen to lose the clip, like I said they're cheap, so I have extra.I was able to easily insert my ALPS 3" thick and 30" wide self inflating mattress by sliding it in the end window. Temperatures at Yellowstone got down to high 30° and using my 20° sleeping bag I was comfy. In fact, with this self inflating mattress, the sleeping surface was more comfortable than my bed at home.Since the cot is 90 inches long and my self inflating mattress is 77 inches, for me there was adequate storage space at the end of the cot for a bag containing all my clothes and miscellaneous gear. The 30' wide mattress still allowed a gap between the mattress and both sides of the tent for storage/easy access of flashlights, books, bear pepper spray,,, also, there are small pockets along the roof for storage of small items. If you happen to buy this tent from the manufacture, please note that for sales in the United States, you must buy the fly separately. For sales outside of the United States, the fly is included. I bought my tent via Amazon and the fly was included with the tent. The fly is made of heavy-duty waterproof material and is extremely easy to put on and it fits securely. It slips down over the edges of the tent like a fitted sheet, the ends utilize a quick release snap onto the tent frame with shoestring tiedowns on the sides. Because of the difficulty of tying the shoestring tiedowns with one hand, I replace them with nylon straps and quick release buckles. This worked beautifully. I was able to secure the fly over the top of one end of the tent so that it could not be blown away but did not block any of the windows. If it starts to rain, all I have to do is pull the fly down across the tent and secure the remaining quick release buckles.I also purchased the storage bag that attaches to the bottom of the tent. This bag is heavy duty and extremely well-made. There are absolutely no setup instructions included with this tent. That's not such a big deal since this setup is pretty obvious/intuitive. But I found the attachment of the storage bag cumbersome. The concept of having an additional storage compartment underneath the tent seems to be a good idea, but the application... not so much.In summary, this is an extremely well-built one-person (and possibly moderate sized dog) tent. It's extremely easy to set up and take down. Since you're up off the ground, you do not have to worry about ground conditions/obstacles/sticks/rocks. You can set it up on a cement pad, gravel, pretty much any level terrain and have a excellent shelter/sleeping experience. Plus, if it rains the ground water passes underneath you and not into the tent. It is heavy and in no way could it be used for hiking/backpacking. It easily fits in the trunk of my Honda Accord, but it takes up about 25% to 30% of the space.Bottom line, I like it, would purchase it again and highly recommend it for car/truck camping. It fitted my needs perfectly and looking forward to using it again.

Heavy and big and worth it
Bought this tent last year so I would have a place to sleep when my wife and I take the granddaughters camping in our very small Casita. I'd slept in small tents for a couple of years, but being a 72 year old geezer grandpa made those nights pretty tough. Getting up two or three times in the night (y'all know what I'm talking about) was really tough. The Kamp-Rite has helped enormously. It's easy to set up and gets me high enough off the ground that my old knees thank me every time. Lots of windows for good airflow in summer. Very good rain fly for the wet times. It is heavy and big, so make sure it will fit in your travel space. I add an insulated sleeping pad (a yoga mat works great also) for more padding and warmth in winter and a battery powered fan to hang inside to circulate air when the nights aren't as cool as I like. Overall, a very good purchase for me.

WOW, so comfortable
My wife and I love our two units. They are comfy, roomy, and sturdy. We also purchased separate air mattresses for extra warmth from below, but, you dont really need these. Easy to set up and TOTALLY worth the convenience and price. Can be used under a 10 x 10 canopy, on the back of your pick up truck even if you dont want to sleep at ground level. AMAZING, and they retain the heat well, since they are so small of a tent space. Sold our RV so we can bring these and our boat to maximize our fun on the water and in camp. We also have a clam dining tent. GET one for cooking and gaming inside, you WONT regret it.

As a big guy, comfiest tent I've ever used.
This thing is sweet. Once you get the steps, it takes maybe 6 minutes to set up. I keep a pd and sleeping bag in it, fold it up and head out. Rain fly attached to the frame, no need for spikes.Only complaint was condensation. With the fit on the side walls were moist. I rigged up a lil solar fan to circulate the air and it was perfect. This model folds down a bit big, 36x42 or so. Perfect for road trip camping, nor for hiking.Again, I'm 6' 240lbs. Enough space for a bag at my feet, comfy, easy to use. Absolutely a staple for my future trips.
