Porsche 911 Flat-Six Boxer Engine

The Boxster engine was great to build, however, let down by below par electronics.Having completed the build, only the cylinder 1 LED lit up (as the pistons fired simulating the running engine), the rest of the cylinder LEDs did not light.Only two possible areas for the fault, 1. the main electric board which the engine mounts on or the 'distributor wiring' and you'd think that the manufacturer would have QA'd this.The company itself was great willing to refund or replace (though given current time of year no ETA was possible).I opted for the refund which was promptly provided, if I had to pick a fault with the refund, there was conflicting information on using the 'FREEPOST' and a statement advising the return packet is tracked (note freepost doesn't cover this and the Royal Mail tracking cost over 25% of the original price of the product which wasn't added to the refund).The 3 star is really for the product, I expected better.

As some other reviewers have found, there was a part missing (in our case the cylinder head gaskets) - Amazon sent a replacement and that had the parts we needed. It took a few hours to put this together with my eight year old - we both enjoyed it and learned something about engines work. Instructions mostly clear and parts fitted together well.

Very good model with accurate & realistic cam and ignition timing. Good quality moulded parts that fitted together very well. Instructions easy to follow and obviously written by an English person rather than a dodgy Chinese translation. I won't go into specific details, but there are several potential pitfalls during the build to make this a challenging model to complete. That's not a criticism, it's a good thing because it adds to the educational value. I've previously built real racing engines, and this was still a challenge and helped me educate my 10 year old as to how 4-stroke engines work.The engine runs smoothly and the flashing LED's simulating cylinder firing is a really cool touch. It's not cheap, but I would say it's pretty good value, especially compared to the Haynes V8 if reviews of inaccurate timing are to believed.

The media could not be loaded.  I love this item! I’m quite simply a nerd when it comes to engines. This was my third one. What a fantastic little project this was to build. Fascinating to go through the easy to follow step by step instructions, before you know it, it’s complete and working. Would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who has similar nerdy interests to myself. ⚠️ Extremely rewarding ⚠️

BUYER BEWARE:Arrived with a missing part as per previous reviews. A vital piece that stops you being able to complete the kit. The main distributor of the kit TRENDS UK are not very helpful saying they will order the replacement part and then send you it. Had no confirmation of this or received the part yet. When suggested they send the piece from a kit they have in stock, replacing that with the custom order they did not seem interested and cry patronising. Poor customer service.The kit itself is very good. Though it's snap together nature does mean you may want to invest in some glue and spray paint for some areas. The carbs are in two pieces leaving unsighty lines but this may just be my perfectionist nature.I would still recommend the kit and if the part arrives it will look great as a display piece. I think the noises it makes are a bit gimmicky and it does let it down.

I loved building this. It was a lot of fun, very true to the flat6 engine and brilliantly thought out. My only comment is that it would be nice to be able to turn the engine sound off as it is honestly really annoying after the first few runs but other than that it's superb! :)

I saw this in an advertisement so I bought it here in Amazon, which is somewhat cheaper. The shipping was fast. When I received it, I was a bit disappointed as the product box itself was so beaten up. I opened and check and there is nothing wrong with the parts inside so I didn't complaint. It took me around 6 hours to finish this kit. I really enjoyed it. There instruction is very clear though I found some small error inside it. So far, I enjoy it and happy with the purchase.

Awesome '66 Porsche 911 engine 1/4 scale model kit.Love the pistons moving pattern, attached to the crankshaft, as the real one, and the cams/valves perfect timing.Although the kit doesn't need any painting neither glue, I bought separately 2 small cans of spray paint to apply on the fan and on its cover, carburetors and exhaust manifolds and silencer. Great decoration piece, enjoy it a lot.Highly recommender for any vintage Porsche enthusiast or just any petrolhead.
