Why do these get such a bad rep? 2 week update
Reddit, youtube, the internet in general is lit with people trashing these. I wanted an upgrade from my old orbi system, I tried eero, loved the app (made me realise how bad the orbi app is), but not the subscription features, I tried tplink but i think those are on the cusp of being banned in the US due to chinese spying, so i felt i was left with these to try and wow, I am not dissappointed. I running it as a double nat, I haven't set my gateway router to bridge mode or anything, but i did turn its wifi off so this system is the only thing connected to it. The app was easy, much like setting up any nest device, turn it on, add device, phone connects to device, says its settings things up, downloads an update and voila, done. Asks if you want to add a the satelites, yes, repeat the process, and done. the main router device is in my office upstairs, one satellite is other side of the house with a 2 walls and a corridor between it, and the other is downstairs with a wall and a ceiling between them and both have 'great connection'. ping is minimal in fact non existent, i get the exact ping i'd get connected directly to gateway router, and in the app i can see what devices are connected and what bandwidth they are using. I can prioritise devices, block devices, setup family rules, i've turned on 'prefferred activites' for video calls as i work from home and i can see this is very much a turn on and forget device. my son gets full wifi 6E connection for his gaming, and most critically the wife has not complained once about anything dropping out or bogging down. for all those folks that are constantly having to reset the device because of issues i can only summise google has fixed all that or they have some strange network configurations going on or dare i say their internet providers aren't good. For my experiance all i can say is after orbi, eero, tplink, these will be the ones i stick with.UpdateHad to return it, I eventually started experiencing the issues I had read about. Firstly if someone was on a video call it killed the Internet for anyone else connected, so I turned that feature off and yet there was still evidence of throttling if e.g my wife was on a teams meeting. Secondly, on certain days devices just wouldn't get any Internet, after 5 mins or so it would work but the moment another device connected e.g. my son getting home from school and turning his laptop on, the whole system would get bogged down again. This started happening after the first week. Lastly I was often seeing my Internet drop, would look over at the router to see a slow yellow flashing light which indicates a network error, this also happened fairly frequently. I liked the app, I liked having everything in the nest app with all my other gear, the hardware on paper is good, my sense was that Google have messed up the software in these things, they've tried to be clever with what gets prioritised, load balancing and traffic management and I think it ties itself in nots because of it. I'm just going to stick with orbi...

Runs hot - 6. Month update
6 month update. Downgraded to 1 star. Absolute trash. Restarts randomly. Have no access to logs so can’t see why. Google useless in support. Returned to Amazon.——Runs and and yes extended range but not worth it. Depending on where you have placed things it says good WiFi but still low speed access until I moved the mesh
