Anyone interested in learning about Islam/Turkish culture …
Should get this book without hesitation. It is a manifesto to understand better and be more compassionate as well as forgiving to Muslims. As Christians we are encouraged to share the Gospel with everyone, Muslims are no exception to this. Derya bravely shares her story as an example on how our actions impact the livelihood of others.

This is an exceptional journey
I saw Derya Little speak at the Catholic Women’s Conference in Columbus Ohio Feb. 2018. My daughter and I were so taken with her talk that I ran to get two copies for us before she finished. I am glad I did, as soon as she finished speaking women flocked to her table to get the book. I was not able to get my copy signed (even though I was was 2nd in line) because so many were moved by her story. She was undoubtedly nervous as she began her talk so I was a little unsure but then her personality came through when she relaxed and I am so glad I heard her speak before I read her book. Her book is amazing and her journey inspiring. In reading the full story I was able to catch glimpses of her sense of humor and personality. I gave up “empty” books for lent and have been focusing on books that would move me spiritually and intellectually and this book did both. She is brave, insightful and a blessing. We are all called to share our journey and to support one another in our journey of faith. I not only purchased two copies of the paperback, I also purchased the kindle edition. This book is amazing!! Barbara

A journey to Catholicism that thoughtfully explains Islam and
Derya has written a thoughtful, relatable auto biography about her journey to Catholicism. I enjoyed reading it. I was especially struck to learn that although she was Muslim, and recited Muslim prayers, and recited the Quran, she did not understand Arabic. ( and that this is common in Turkey) I thought her summation of the Muslim religion vs Christian was insightful and accurate, and the personal journey was honest and well written. I thought that some of the personal events could have been explained in more detail, but overall the book has excellent observations on Turkey, Muslims, Americans and Christianity. Her own perceptiveness about her struggles, her parents, and inadequacies separate this story from the typical "journey home " type story. It is difficult to succinctly tell your life story...she has done it quite well. Despite growing up in Canada, I could relate quite well to the authors philosophical wrestling, sceptism and curiosity that eventually led to a cathartic understanding of Christianity and her place in it. She mentions the movie "Bliss", in her book, as an accurate portrayal of how women are treated in Turkey. I would highly recommend that movie as well. It's excellent.

How Christian missionaries take advantage of vulnerable women
Coming from a Muslim majority country I really wanted to relate to this story and understand why this woman would convert to a religion so oppressive of women, one that specifically promotes self hatred and poverty as good values. All I came up with is this woman was neglected by her family from childhood and never taught to love herself and set goals for her life. And the missionaries she met were only to happy to take advantage of her situation and brainwash her into submitting to their lifestyle. It is very sad. She claims to be happy ending up a housewife with multiple children and without a job after basically throwing her education down the gutter. But still misses eating scones? Well done. She is in absolute denial. I hope it's not too late for her, that one day she will wake up and realize: These people took advantage of my situation, made me feel guilty about the decisions I have made for myself, and convinced me that the best I can do as a woman is to become a baby making machine for a man who sees my value as nothing more than a cow nursing his babies. Why? Because they told me god is a man and he says we all have to suffer. Just remember this Darya: Jesus never wrote the bible and never said there will be a new testament you should reference to and let men interpret however they want.

A story that most reconciled Catholics can relate to yet a story that cradle Catholics will enjoy. I loved how she contacted the Catholic Church
A very well written and engaging book that keeps you interested throughout the story! A very interesting story of a Turkish girl's life from childhood until the present day. Mrs. Little weaves her story about being raised in a village near the Taurus mountains by an emotionally absent mother and a philandering father (who left the family for a younger woman). She tells of her journey away from Islam, to atheism and her final destination of finding the Catholic faith. A story that most reconciled Catholics can relate to yet a story that cradle Catholics will enjoy.I loved how she contacted the Catholic Church, about five times, before the Priest would even speak to her! 😀 I loved her tenacity and admired that she was willing to travel one and a half hours (one way) to visit the priest and mass.Overall, a very inspiring and heartwarming story. I HIGHLY recommend taking time to read this story.

From Islam to Christ
I’ve spent the last month or so watching foreign movies and have been captivated by the Turkish ones and their faith. So I was intrigued to read this wonderful inspiring book from a woman from Turkey, who was Islamic. It was quite informative on the true faith background of Islam and the Muslim way of life. I was captivated by her spiritual journey from Islam, to atheism, to Christianity and finally to Catholicism. Also fascinated in hearing about Derya’s perspective on the different cultures and ways of life in Turkey, England, and USA. She’s right on with US’s individualism and loss of community. It’s sad. Makes me reflect on what can I do to help make a change. I highly recommend this book. I absolutely loved it.
