How to Rebuild & Modify Ford C4 & C6 Automatic Transmissions (Workbench Series)

This is a nice step by step instruction book. It’s great for identifying transformations.

There is a ton of information in this book. The step by step photos are great as well. Its a great book.

Well worth the price, informative and well illustrated. This book will get you started.

This book is best suited for someone who has a good grasp of transmission modifications. It is not as pedestrian or comprehensive as the Haynes TechBook, but it covers performance enhancements the Haynes guide does not and the pictures are in color and very good.

Performance and regular duty build information. Very good and useful information!

Another great Car Tech/SA Design "Workbench How-To" book! Authored by George Reid (who's style of writing I enjoy), it only requires you have have some automotive ability to be successful in using this book to diagnose and repair your C-4 (in my case) automatic transmission - with a minimum of specialized tools. At the very least with this book, I believe you will have an idea what may be wrong with your auto-trans when you take it to your mechanic, if you don't want to tackle things yourself. If you have an older Ford product with one of these models, this book would be good insurance to have on-hand before you need it! Buy yourself a copy. It is worth it!

So, this book is good. It has distilled the most important aspects of the rebuild including torque specifications into one easy to read and follow book. It does fall short on some details like positioning the kick down lever. There are no pictures or description about how to make sure it is positioned correctly. It also, doesn't have an exploded view of the assembly. I used my shop manual in conjunction with this book to do the rebuild. As well as watching some YouTube videos. I would not rely on this book alone, but I am glad I purchased it.

The book is great at covering technical and performance issues relating to C6 build, and steps you through a build. This book is NOT a substitute for an actual rebuild manual, covering the exact sequence of dis-assembly and assembly(I highly recommend the Haynes "Ford Automatic Transmission Overhaul" manual). I was hoping for more info about DIY mods and E4OD parts updates(interchange data for low gear set and fully rollerized pieces from late E4OD), but the book stuck to off the shelf, aftermarket parts. Lots of good pics of transmissions going together. Someone rebuilding a Ford automatic transmission would be well advised to consult brown shoe productions, for excellent website support. I rebuilt my C6 behind my diesel and it runs great! You can do it too!

Just what I needed

Das Buch ist gut beschrieben und es sind viele Bilder und Tipps enthalten um eine C4 oder C6 Automatikgetriebe zu warten oder überholen. Der Versand ging bei mir etwas länger, aber der Freundliche Lieferant hat gleich einen Ersatz gesendet, da das erste Exemplar auf dem Versandweg verschollen ist. Deshalb auch 5 Sterne

Très bien fait beaucoup d,illustrations

Je restaure la boite C4 de ma vieille Mustang '69, et quelques bruits se font entendre dans la boite. J'ai pris ce bouquin afin de mettre les mains dedans et de réparer par moi-même, car par un pro c'est une opération très couteuse que de la reconditionner (devis dans les 200 à 2600€). Tout y est décrit, comment se rendre compte si telle ou telle pièce est endommagée, et l'entretien moins poussé y figure également (notamment apprendre à re-régler les bandes d'embrayage, vidange, changer le filtre). Je ne me suis pas encore lancé dans les gros travaux, mais en tout cas le bouquin est vraiment intéressant et complet. ATTENTION, uniquement en Anglais !
