Lovely, interesting book
My children love these books (4 & 7). I got this one to add to their collection and it did not disappoint. It's so well-written and enjoyable for both age groups. I love how there is a more detailed history at the back of these books, that's a real bonus and makes it make sense for my older child!

Different message than other books in this series
I have a handful of books in the Little People, Big Dreams series. The books are quite inspiring, generally the theme is that you work hard, you can overcome a humble upbringing and obstacles to be great in your field. This book diverges a little from that format because Queen Elizabeth II was born into a famous family and honestly didn’t want the throne - she would have preferred a quiet life on a farm while her uncle’s family ruled. But with his abdication at age of 10, all of that changed for Elizabeth. This book does not have detailed information about what her duties, her trials and tribulations, or many of the things that were important to her. What the book does show is how she put her personal desires aside to do what is best for her nation, and that the most important thing is to serve others. We don’t always get to pick where our life takes us, but we need to make the best of it and do our best. Although this is not the standard message of this series, but it still fits in and works, as it teaches a good lesson.I’m not sure of the timing of this book - why they didn’t wait until she had passed and include that in the timeline, since it was released the same month as her death and obviously it wouldn’t be a long time. However, that isn’t enough to deduct from the content of this book. The artwork as always with this series is very cartoonish, with disproportionate body sizes, but it’s cute and does not detract from the book. This book would make an excellent gift for any children with family in the UK, or any kids who are interested in history. The cover and inner art and bindings are impeccable and beautifully done as always with this series.
