I used 350ml to 2ltrs of water and poured directly into my reservoir with the float. Ran two manual cycles and it cleared the excess iron from the system. I also used it to clean the cisterns. We have a water softener plus iron treatment system - but full disclosure I never took the time to understand the maintenance requirements ... until of course it stopped working! During my research to fix the problem I came across the requirement to regularly add a treatment to the brine tank as a scheduled maintenance task. By this point (long story) the system had been turned off for a year and you can see the dramatic impact that had on our shower fixtures in the photo - dark brown stains all over the enclosure. We thought we had ruined them and would have to replace. Numerous store bought "iron stain removers" were like swatting an elephant with a fly swat - zero noticeable effect. The photo shows the impact this had with the job half done so you can see the impact. Mixed the solution with water, sprayed it on and then gave it a scrub. Wow. 90% better and I was later able to clean it up even further with a bit more elbow grease. Following the helpful comments from others I added this to my brine tank and performed a flush and the system is back - no more sulphur smell. I also add this into toilet bowls and tanks, let it sit and then cleaned in the morning and they came back to as good as new. Yet to be seen if adding the treatment into the system will stop the stains returning but I am confident they will. As others have said this powder can irritate your throat and lungs so handle with gloves and some kind of mask. Also be aware that the small size bottle will only have enough for about 3 treatments so if like me you are playing catch up and cleaning multiple toilets, baths and showers as well as maintaining your tank I would recommend getting the larger size bottle - it goes fast.
